omg hi i know this request sounds a bit hefty but hear me out: you’ve got y/n, and you’ve got her twin. they’re both exchange students but their school somehow messed up the application or there wasn’t enough space in one school whatever, so one of them ends up in nekoma and the other in shiratorizawa. then, they each decide to be the managers of that school’s respective teams. and then when training camp comes up, they finally meet each other again and are happy to be together but the rest of the teams are SHOOK (including their own maybe 👀👀) bc they didn’t tell their teams they had a twin. bonus points, inarizaki is there and the miya twins try to flirt w them (ships are up to you bc tbh anything sounds fun asf, idk i’ve had this idea in my head for so long IM AN ONLY CHILD I DONT EVEN HAVE A TWIN FKDKSKSKS) idk if you wanna just do headcannons go for it babes it’s a lot i know lmaooo
This is genius!! Omg, I’m not a twin either but I’m VIBING with this idea — I did headcanons because there was so muuchhh. I hope you like 💕
(T/n) = twins (first) name
>>>>—————————>
(L/n) Twins going to seperate schools and reuniting during a Shiratorizawa vs Nekoma practice match and Nationals:
• Due to unfortunate circumstances, (L/n) (T/n) had gotten into Shiratorizawa however, her twin sister (L/n) (Y/n) had to attend another school - luckily Nekoma had last minute vacancies.
• You stayed in Tokyo whilst your twin lived in the Shiratorizawa Dorms, it made seeing each other tricky but you always had video chats and since you were identical, it was easy to sneak into the dorms and stay for the weekend.
• You both loved Volleyball and had looked into your respective teams, (T/n) having the more famous one begrudgingly but being siblings... things got competitive.
“I’m going to become the manager of Shiratorizawa and I’m gonna take them to Nationals~” Was your twins cheery statement, whilst you playfully taunted her.
“Hah, more like they’ll take you, if I join Nekoma I’ll actually be useful.”
“No way - I’m a better manager than you (Y/n)!”
“Oh yeah?! Bring it on (T/n)! I’ll see you at Nationals - if you make it!” Thus, the challenge had begun.
• Nekoma and yourself had bonded, you’d heard the same about (T/n) and Shiratorizawa, it was like fate had gifted you your perfect matches in the end. Even if it meant being separated.
• It was around your second year with them that you’d heard about Karasuno, the once- upon-a-time rivals of Nekoma and how they’d organised a practice game with them over in Miyagi.
• You’d be playing other teams in the district to make it more beneficial... which is where your scheming came in.
“Hey, Tetsurō Senpai...”
“What do you want, you’re only ever so cute when you want something from me.”
“That’s not true! (Y/n)-chan is cute all of the time!” Yamamoto playfully punched his Captains shoulder, the latter reluctantly agreeing with a flush before clearing his throat and gesturing for you to continue.
“Think we could play Shiratorizawa whilst we’re over in Miyagi?”
“I’ll talk to Coach Nekomata and see what I can do, no promises though (Y/n).” Kuroo would do his best, you knew he tried for those he cared about, especially his team.
• It was no surprise then, that within 3 days you’d received a call from your twin.
“You’re coming to challenge me and my team (Y/n)?” The excitement in her voice, as well as that in yours was clear.
“You can thank Kuroo for that — you’ll finally get to meet my team!”
“And you mine! Tendō and Ushijima are incredible, I love them.” You’d spoken of respective players, shared stories and felt like you already knew part of each other’s teams despite never meeting them.
“Yes! I can’t wait - Lev isn’t coming with us, but Kenma and Yaku more than make up for it!”
“Lev is that first year you told me about right? I hope you’re ready to lose (Y/n), Goshiki is talented as hell.”
“And Nekoma is a unified machine, you’ll need a tissue to wipe away your loser tears~”
• Fast forward to the training trip, and the second you walk into Shiratorizawa you and your twin immediately rush over to each other, a collision of hugs, screams and excited conversation exchanged amidst the suddenly silent room.
• Tendō is the one to separate you both, guiding you to stand side by side as he leans in to inspect you both with a finger on his chin.
“Well well well, seems our Chibi-chan has a Chibi-chan 2.0~”
Ushijima doesn’t seem all that phased by the phenomenon, meanwhile Shirabu had to restrain the awed interrogation of Goshiki.
• Nekoma weren’t quite as calm, immediately Tendō hopped out of the way as Yamamoto tackled you, gawking between you and (T/n) whilst Inuoka attempted to null his yells.
“(Y/n)?! THERES TWO OF YOU?! DOUBLE THE BEAUTY!”
“Aw he’s cute, my team are never so nice to me.” (T/n) tutted, a subtle glare sent to Shiratorizawa - Satori being the one to stick his tongue out.
“Trust me, Yamamoto is the only one.” Cue your mirroring glare sent to a scheming Kuroo, whilst Nekomas Ace is still gushing over the two of you.
• The teams are moderately amused once the game starts as the main smack-talkers are you and (T/n) hollering over the court as you’d reached the Third Set at a tie. Friendships between both teams were formed due to your family relations.
• It’s not until the game is over and the Captains shake hands whilst you two hug it out with congratulatory words and playful insults that they start messing around again.
“C’mon (Y/n), we’ve gotta go~” Kuroo smugly states, purposefully slinging an arm around (T/n)s’ shoulders and guiding her out.
Before you had the chance to retaliate, Tendō gladly joined in.
“The Cat Captain is right, I’ve missed my little kitten anyway~” The redhead cheerfully gave you a high ten, intertwining your fingers in the process adding intimacy and offered a mischievous wink which you only laugh at.
• Nekoma are freaking out, that’s their manager and they’d know if you had a boyfriend, right? Yaku and Kai are quick to hold back Yamamoto with Kuroo suddenly sweeping you away from Satori since Ushijima had already reclaimed (T/n).
“That’s our kitten- ah manager.”
“And (T/n) is ours, but I look forward to seeing you at Nationals Nekoma.” The Captains bid one another farewell and you can only hope to play your twins’ team again.
• Shiratorizawa didn’t make it to Nationals (since Karasuno beat them) but (T/n) wanted to come and support you (bitterly). Ushijima came with her too since he’s the Captain and wanted to keep you two out of trouble. Plus he loves Volleyball.
• It’s when you’re checking the matchups do you encounter your beloved rivals, whilst Nekoma were distracted you went to scope out the area. ‘Luckily’ for you, you bumped into other competitors, the blonde ‘accidentally’ tripping.
“Woah, are you okay-“ Before you could finish, he’d interrupted all suave.
“Yeah, I just fell for ya that’s all~“
“-send me a postcard next time~”
There was a moment of silence, you impressed by the smoothness and him awed by the sheer sarcasm.
• The boy introduced himself as Miya Atsumu, Inaruzakis Setter and took note of your Nekoma jacket, asking you to watch him play if you got the chance. Especially if you become opponents.
• Bidding farewell, you found (T/n) with a bright smile upon her face, Onigiri in hand.
“The games haven’t even started and you’re eating.” Was your bemused observation, your twin scoffing with an innocent pout.
“I was hungry, and this cute player from Inarizki recommended the teriyaki Onigiri here so I brought some, wanna try?” (T/n) justified, showing the item to you.
“I met an Inarizaki player too, and I’m too nervous to eat but thanks (T/n).”
“Suit yourself, good luck and I’ll look for you later.” She rejoined Ushijima, the pair waving as you met up with Nekoma.
• It isn’t until after the first round beating Kiyokawa High School, before the Karasuno vs Inarizaki game that you’d encounter the Miyas again — or rather Atsumu approached (T/n).
“Yer scoping out the competition huh gorgeous? I don’t blame ya (L/n), ‘Samu and I are the best of the best.” The blonde proudly told (T/n), thinking you’d shed your Nekoma jacket to be inconspicuous.
“I— I don’t even know you? Wait, how do you know my name?!”
• Osamu meets the pair, and actually thinks it through, Atsumu on the other hand jumps to conclusions.
“We just saw eac-“ Hearing (T/n), Atsumu was quick to argue but Osamu kicked his calve.
“Shut it dumbass.”
“Hey, loser twin!” You called over, gaining the attention of her and the Miya Twins.
“Ah... ‘Samu there’s two of them...”
“That’s what I was gonna tell ya.”
• It must’ve been a twin instinct (twinstinct hehe) but yourself and Osamu could tell the individual differences/quirks immediately, hence how he’d figured it out so quickly. A mutual smile was shared as your respective twins continued their petty insults.
• “(T/n)! Ushijima is looking for you and I need to find Kuroo so...”
“Oh, yer boyfriends?”
“Uh - aha -no no, our Captains.” Your twin managed, flustered and embarrassed - you were glad she’d spoken because you were no better with the heat on your skin.
“Perfect, tell your Captains’ that we’re not sorry for keeping you~” Atsumu shouted as you both waved goodbye and headed back to the stands/courts.
• Nekoma won against Sarukawa Tech High, your next opponents currently battling it out on the court which you’d all raced to see - mainly for Karasuno.
But it was during the break after the first set that the twins approached the stands, well, you.
“(Y/n), ya won?” It was brave of Osamu to address you so casually but you didn’t mind.
“Of course, my team, my friends, are truly amazing. Our next opponent is either Karasuno or you.”
“You’ll be facing me- us- Inarizaki! Don’t you worry sweetheart.” It seemed whatever suaveness Atsumu once had was long gone by now.
• They played incredibly, but the entirety of Nekoma were glad of Karasunos’ victory, you’d taken a second to see the twins though.
“You were amazing, I’m grateful I got to see you both play. Looks like you won’t be facing me after all, sweetheart~”
“Yeah well- I— jus’ watch yer back next year beautiful. I’m comin’ for ya.”
“OHO! NOT ON MY WATCH PRETTY BOYS!”
“Yamamoto! Apologies for him.” Yaku forced the Mohawk to bow, Kuroo slipping an arm around your waist with a smirk. “But he’s not wrong.”
• You were staying with (T/n) for the weekend, utilising Shiratorizawas practice break to tell the tale of the Miyas and their flirting. The team were oddly protective over the both of you, but you hadn’t the time to question it with Goshikis inquiry.
“Okay, so if you two had children with the Miya twins respectively... would your children be identical?”
“...”
“...”
“We won’t have to find out.” If anyone else had said it you wouldn’t have believed them, but something about the certainty of Wakatoshi made you both smile.

❝atsumu, kuroo, tsukishima and bokuto playing acnh ❞
Tumblr media
miya atsumu
→ first he called the game dumb but he eventually gave in because everyone and their aunts were playing it and he didn’t wanna be left out
→ mf tries so hard for raymond at first
→ he insists it’s just because he can sell him for a lot
→ he really just wants raymond because he lowkey reminds him of osamu
→ anyways this fool doesn’t get raymond but ya know who he does get?
→ pedro
→ atsumu was ✨disgusted✨
→ “a clown?! a fukn clown?! yer jokin me!”
→ “aw don’t cry he fits in so well on your island 😹”
→ “sHUT YER TRAP 😠😠😠”
→ he hated pedro at first and for what?
→ eventually he starts vibing with him though
→ he decides that perhaps... pedro isn’t a bad guy after all
→ so atsumu develops a soft spot for him and begins to favour him over the rest of his mediocre villagers whose names he can’t be bothered to remember
→ ya know whose name he can remeber though?
→ BELLA 😡😠😡😠😡😡😠
→ the name that sparks rage in him
→ atsumu hits his villagers with his net shouting “nice cut g!” as a joke
→ with bella he’s not joking 😐
→ he hits her repeatedly and grins maliciously when she gets angry eventually
→ LOVES shoving her into pitfalls for absolutely no reason
→ cusses her out under his breath
→ writes hate mail to her only to get fustrated when she sends a nice reply about the flowers she saw the other day that reminded her of him
→ honestly bella girl it ain’t worth it, pack your bags and get outta there sis 😔
→ he wants her to get tf off his island because he doesn’t like her but he also kinda wants her to stay because he loves annoying her and making her angry
→ literally goes out of his way to buy the ugliest clothes for her to wear
→ he also has all his villagers address him as “big dick man”
→ pedro is special though 😳
→ pedro is the chosen one who gets to call him “tsumu”
→ JUST PEDRO 😤😾😡
→ literally thinks it’s the funniest thing when his villagers say “hey big dick man! the weather sure is great today isn’t it!”
→ you can hear his cackling from down the hall
→ thinks it’s the peak of comedy
→ oh and you’re not allowed to visit his island on a saturday
→ saturdays are “for the boys”
→ and by that he means he’s just going to buy a ton of matching clothes for him and pedro and talk to him all day until he eventually annoys pedro by accident to which he genuinely gets upset about
→ he doesn’t really bother with the fishing tourneys or bug offs
→ does catch a few though just to make sure he beats bella earns nook miles
→ pretty average island, not too much effort put into it yet
→ atsumu prefers channeling his energy and game time into bullying bella interacting with his villagers
Tumblr media
kuroo tetsurō
→ bangs. it. tf. out.
→ literally acts like he doesn’t care about the game but has 395+ hours game time
→ uses the excuse it’s to play with kenma but kuroo actually got into it before kenma had the chance to look at it properly
→ fishing tourney KING
→ has multiple gold trophy’s and built a whole extension just to show them off
→ also treats all his villagers equally
→ he was a bit picky and only wanted cats and dogs on his island though
→ if you’re anything but a cat or a dog, i’m sorry but kuroo will timeskip you tf off of his island
→ has a soft spot for lucky but doesn’t admit it
→ he likes to come across as a “fair dictator of the island”
→ just admit luckys your fav and go oh my god
→ his house is really nice too
→ pretty much paid off all his debt and is financially responsible 😼
→ he will send you money over a few times a week because he claims he’s a good boyfie virtually and realistically
→ LOVES opening the letters from ‘mom’
→ it’s a small detail in the game but it brings kuroo comfort when he opens the letters and sometimes receives gifts from his virtual ‘mom’ 🥺
→ keeps all the letters from her because that’s what he would do if his real mom ever wrote to him
→ he’s a shameless timeskipper
→ “tetsu?? where tf did you get all this the games only been out a week??”
→ “👁👁 idk what you’re talking about baby”
→ the thing that annoys him the most are the fossils
→ HATES the stupid little marks in the ground that appear every day
→ also HATES talking to blathers
→ “spit it out already! i have places to be and villagers to see!”
→ completely ignores blathers’ real name and refers to him as ‘bokuto’
→ because he’s an owl duh
→ and bokuto also talks a lot
→ you thought it was a cute friendship thing at first but took it back when you heard him muttering under his breath
→ “oh my god just analyse the fossils already you himbo bird!”
→ “did you just call blathers a himbo? 😳”
→ “...no? 😳👀”
→ all in all, kuroo’s pretty good at the game
→ you like visiting his island because he has a ton of extra stuff he just gives you
→ “i never want to hear you call me a bad boyfriend again 😐”
→ “okay fine...but oNLY if you give me an ironwood dresser 😏”
Tumblr media
tsukishima kei
→ another one who bangs it out
→ doesn’t really care when you point it out though
→ “you’re just jealous your islands a dumping ground compared to mine 🥱”
→ “k-kei 😔”
→ also sprints near where you’re fishing to scare the fish off and be spiteful 💀
→ little shit KNOWS you only need oranges to complete all the fruits on your island
→ he also knows you’re out of nook miles tickets
→ “aw that’s a shame, maybe if you were a bit better at the game you’d find them quicker but good luck! 😀”
→ oranges are his native fruit 😐😑😐
→ eventually he gives you them because you’re relentless and his patience runs thin after a while
→ good at the bug offs
→ pretty good at scorpion/tarantula hunting too
→ convinced spike is in love with him after the amount of scorpions and tarantulas he’s donated to him
→ his fossil exhibition in the museum is completed already
→ when blathers tells him the facts about the dinosaurs he just rolls his eyes
→ “i knew that already you stupid bird 🙄”
→ why’s everyone bullying blathers damn 😿
→ now, he likes henry
→ one of the few villagers he doesn’t bully
→ tsukki doesnt particularly care for majority of his villagers
→ henry has a special place in his heart though
→ maybe it’s because henry isn’t overly perky or he isn’t rude like the cranky villagers which tsukishima doesn’t like
→ henry is just??? so??? nice????
→ he can’t hate him
→ all his villagers have catchphrases that are dumb af
→ tsukki thought he was being clever when he made them but he just looks mean when other people talk to his villagers
→ “good morning i am useless! i love your outfit!”
→ henry gets to call him tsukki though
→ only because he figured out that henry reminds him of yamaguchi
→ that’s the only reason henry’s the exception to his bullying
→ i feel like tsukki has a pretty nice house too
→ he makes a lot of bells from selling scorpions and tarantulas and spare fossils he’s dug up
→ doesn’t really care about the size but has very detailed rooms
→ like all the furniture in his rooms follow a scheme
→ mf never opens his mailbox
→ doesn’t care for what the other “peasants have to say for themselves”
→ terraforming isn’t really his thing tbh
→ doesn’t like how slow the process and be and kinda likes the natural flat land
→ he likes laying down paths though
→ cusses villagers out when they get in the way though
→ full on shoves them and will keep shoving them until they get annoyed just because they’ve annoyed him
→ tsukki doesnt put as much time into the game as kuroo but his island is still pretty good and aesthetically pleasing
→ he just won’t help you make yours look like that 💀
Tumblr media
bokuto koutarō
→ weeds. everywhere.
→ get so confused when he’s told he has to pick them all
→ “really? why can’t i just let them grow though i kinda like them 🤩”
→ mf ✨struggles✨ at the first stages
→ “y/n, you know i love you, please give me 30 iron nuggets 🥺💖💞💗”
→ ofc you give them to him because you’re well ahead in the game and don’t need them as much as he does
→ praises you like royalty but then he’s back to begging for materials from you 💀
→ doesn’t pay his debts
→ you’re gonna have to help him out here
→ doesn’t like the idea of having to constantly pay them off
→ like?? he doesn’t want a bigger house so why is this damn raccoon always bothering him to upgrade like leave him and his 2 room house alone 😠
→ has a the same camp bed and lamp from when he first moved out the tent 💀
→ insists he doesn’t need another one because the furniture all functions the same
→ he has a point tbf but his house just isn’t aesthetically pleasing
→ he also hoards stuff
→ common butterfly? yeah bokuto has 37 sitting in his storage
→ doesn’t like letting the bugs go because he “caught them fair and square”
→ you show him how to pay his debts back and then he dedicates a whole room to his stupid bugs 💀
→ loves blathers and celeste just because they’re owls
→ doesn’t care about what they’re wittering on about he loves interacting with them just because they’re the only owls in the game 😐
→ his favourite villager is kid cat
→ literally follows him around and sprints circles around him
→ l o v e s the chaos outside the town hall
→ 2 of his villagers are singing, 3 are running around and 1 is just watching like 🧍🏻‍♀️
→ HYPES his singing villagers tf up
→ “yeah get it bianca! turn it up!!! 🥳🥳”
→ has to match his villagers clothes at least once a week
→ also makes them all refer to him as “the best ace”
→ it boosts his ego a little more each time they say it
→ bokuto actually got raymond out of luck but had no idea who tf he was and just how popular he was
→ lets that mf go without advertising that raymond’s in boxes
→ atsumu screeches when he finds this out eventually
→ bokuto doesn’t care what his villagers look like everyone’s welcome
→ bella should move to bokuto’s island and move from atsumu’s because bokuto will accept her with open arms rather than a net to the head everytime he sees her 😿
→ ALWAYS remembers birthdays for his villagers
→ and always shows up to their birthday parties insisting he’s the life of the party and they’d be bored without him 😹
→ which is true to a certain degree cause the party only really starts when the player arrives
→ bokuto is actually okay at terraforming
→ quickly changes his mind after an hour of building and digging and restarts it all over again
→ he can make his island look pretty good
→ theres just weeds and buried fossils everywhere though 👁👁
→ also forgets his turnips go bad
→ literally the least financially responsible out of them all
→ it’s okay though because you help him and he eventually gets the hang of it

HEYYYYY!! I saw your ask box was open and I was wondering if I could request a headcanon? Where the reader is in a massive fight with a friend they haven't seen for like 3 years and the friend takes it too far by saying something like "That's your boyfriend? How gross" "Ew why does he look like that? Couldn't grab someone better? Ugly ho" or whatever you come with? Tendou, Bokuto, Kenma, Kags, Nishinoya please, if you will?
I screeched when I saw this omg thank you I hope this is up to your standards bebs 😼👍🏾 but uh I should say some did come out a little bit like scenarios but I tried to stick to headcanons sorry for that still hope you enjoy 🎃😼
~Admin Rizzo
Tendou Satori
-you was minding your own business walking through a park your hands intertwined with your lover when a ✨m u s t y✨ old friend you knew had decided to share there unwanted opinions
-Tendou could see how uncomfortable you was and wanted to remove you from the situation but as he went to walk around the obstacle you stopped dead in your tracks
-“That’s who your with oh my god that’s fucking gross, I guess you’ll hook up with anyone you thot”
-It’s safe to say that tendou had come up with thousands of insults by the time the slur left there mouth
-Who even was this person?— WAIT WHO THEY CALLING A THOT?!
-you wasn’t a very confrontational person but nevertheless you wasn’t about to let this person who wasn’t even in your day to day life anymore talk smack about your man
-you went to retaliate when a big arm swooped around your shoulder catching you off guard
-“Babe lets go I wanted to bring you to the park today not a circus” 🤡
-Needless to say your ‘friend’ was shocked and maybe a little intimidated
-You on the other hand had to summon all the strength in your body not to laugh in there face
-With his arm still wrapped around he moved you away from the situation the both of you quickly changing the subject to something more important
Bokuto Kōtarō
-Bokuto loves spoiling you
-your the love of his life and he will make sure you know this not only through his words but also his actions
-this however works both ways there isn’t something you wouldn’t do to show him how much you support and love him
-You was sitting in the crowd at one of his games it was a very important one winning this match would definitely get him recognized by some powerhouse teams
-every time he would score a point for his team he would look up at you and every time you would be there imitating his celebration “HEY HEY HEY THATS MY ACE” You felt only pride and absolute infatuation with this man
-you was cheering your heart out when you suddenly felt someone bump your shoulder (a little too hard to be an accident—)
-You swung your head around only to come face to face with an old friend from middle school they looked bitter asf and your conscience was telling you to just ignore them
-“Oh you have nothing to say to me now Huh? I see your at another one of these boring ass games I thought you didn’t have time for people?”
-It’s true at one point you did say that but you didn’t think you’d loose one of your closest friends because of it even so you continue to ignore them hoping they’d get the message and leave
-they didn’t.
-“So you and number 4 are together I’m assuming. I guess ugly attracts ugly”
-immediately you saw red but you couldn’t ruin this for bokuto important people were here. As if he could sense your distress he shot his eyes up to where you were in the stand
-He called a time out, and started running out the gym everyone was confused but when he reappeared in the stands you knew all to well that he had caught on
-“Babe I just noticed your supposed to be closer to the match your an important guest” he smiled you mouthed him a thank you and gathered your things walking a few rows closer to the front
-Thankfully Akaashi was there looking up at you distracting you. The owllike man glared at your old friend “I don’t know what you did to Y/N but you better leave before you have another problem”
-When you looked back your ex friend was nowhere to be seen you giggled as bokuto gave you a big kiss before returning to the court
Kozume Kenma
-Kenma isn’t a contentious person in fact he would much rather settle an issue in the most inconspicuous way possible
-Even so if he feels that him or his partner was disrespected in anyway he will not hesitate
-You and Kenma was at a gaming convention you had been planning since the beginning of February (it’s now late April)
-You had sat through the entrance ceremony and was walking around admiring all the stalls and you were both having so much fun
-Kenma had left you for a split second to get someone’s autograph it was the animator from a game he played religiously you didn’t mind you stayed put and was scrolling through your phone
-“Long time no see y/n” you lifted your head to the sound of your name being called and made perfect eye contact with an old ‘friend’
-If you were being completely honest you hated them all they did was make you feel like an inferior insect whenever you two were together you hummed a ‘yo’ before going back to your phone
-“Still a quiet freak eh LuLu I guess you here on your own or something”
-Lulu was the name of a magical girl from a cartoon you used to love but upon finding out people would use it to mock and degrade you
-you was gonna walk away the ridiculous nickname when you heard a familiar voice
-“no y/n is with me and you are?” It was a genuine question but anyone who didn’t know Kenma would take his pack of expression as bored or sarcastic
-The person scoffed and pointed accusingly at Kenma “That’s who your with LuLu you couldn't do any better HE’S JUST AS LIFELESS AS YOU ARE”
-You tugged on Kenma sleeve motioning to just leave as you felt uncomfortable but Kenma wasn’t having it you had been so excited to be here and with him and this nobody came out of nowhere and started harassing you
-“Listen um going to say this in a way you could understand— he smirked at you and then opened his mouth again
-What escaped his mouth next left you shocked, scared, a little embarrassed for him even but mostly touched
-he cleared his throat
-“lifeless. I’m not lifeless in fact I have a burning hatred for you right now. And that why I feel no guilt in what I’m about to do.”
-You gulped and held on tighter to kenma’s sleeve mentally preparing yourself for what he was about to do
-“YoU HaTe LuLu’S tRanSforMatiOn sOng?!” He practically shouted. Instantly a horde or gamers, writers, weebs and more bombarded the area shouting and screaming and causing a scene
- From all the commotion it’s sounded like your ‘friend’ was ok but some of the words leaving the mouths of the mob were kinda cruel
-you smirked and Kenma led you away
-You know he doesn’t like being the center of attention but he still protected you and for that you’d be sure to thank him for that
Kageyama Tobio
-Kags never really liked leaving you behind when he had to go to different countries
-without you it made him anxious and you would reassure him that you’d be fine and eagerly awaiting his return
-Including the return of his big, fat juicy—
Ahem heart 🙂
-You had been sitting in a café Face Timing him
-You’d often have dates like this and you both enjoyed them you was talking to him when someone took up a seat next to you
-“Hey Y/n funny running into you here” a familiar voice echoed
-A w k w a r d you hadn’t seen or heard from this person since a fight you had a couple years ago why now?
-You had nearly forgotten about your boyfriend on the other side of your iPad screen until “Oh you bought a friend y/n”
-you was at a loss for words but before you could answer the unwanted annoyance to your left answered for you
-‘We’re not friends y/n cut me off because she’s toxic” it took kageyama a solid 10 seconds to realize that this wasn’t a real friend and that you were silently asking for help
-You rested your head in hand obscuring the person from kags field of vision therefore blocking there vision of your face and boyfriend
-hoping they’d get the message without you having to vocalize it
-they stood up and you let out a breath you didn’t know you was holding
-“I wasn’t checking out your friend don’t worry he isn’t my type I prefer cute boys” they spat

-Noya came back a few minutes later and noticed another person had sat right next to you
-Noya is dense VERY VERY DENSE he assumed you ran into one of your friends so he didn't question it
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-After the movie finished you grabbed your things and rushed to get out of that situation
Out Loud -> Kenma Kozume
Tumblr media
summary: one day, kenma finds you crying, and while he isn’t the best at comforting people, he finds that he really doesn’t like to see you sad.
contains: angst if u squint? fluff!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was safe to say, Kenma didn’t really like you.
You were a social butterfly— always loud and mocking. You kind of reminded him of the Fukurōdani ace; and the idea of being locked in a room with the two of you was more than unsettling. He only knew of your existence through Kuroo who had trapped you in his web of intense tutoring. Apparently, that never bothered you though. Through Kuroo, you had met the Nekoma boy’s volleyball team and declared it a win-win scenario.
Whenever you visited their practices, he made a conscious effort to avoid you unless it was absolutely necessary. No hard feelings, but your boisterous attitude had always required him to speak more— and well, he rather preferred not to. He couldn’t tell if you had caught on to his behavior, but if you had, you certainly ignored it. The moment you made quick friends with Yamamoto was around the time he figured you were absolute trouble in the making.
Stalking out of the locker room, he was a bit saddened by the departure of his switch. He was required to turn it off while practicing, a rule he never enjoyed following. On the court, Yaku was threatening to beat up Lev as per usual. Off to the side, Kuroo seated himself on the bench, furiously typing away at his phone.
Kenma couldn’t care less what was happening with Kuroo, but he knew if he didn’t engage now, he’d be left to deal with his talkative aftermath. It was a matter of whether he wanted to suffer now or later.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, slipping into the seat besides Kuroo.
Kuroo shoots him a wary glance before speaking, “Y/N isn’t here today.”
“So?” Now that Kenma thought about it, it was a tad bit quieter today. He didn’t think much of it, but he had to admit, it was strange not having you try and start a conversation with him first thing in the afternoon.
“She’s not responding to my texts either... I just think it’s strange,” Kuroo explained in further depth.
Kenma sighed, “She’s probably busy with something else. Don’t worry about it so much.”
Kuroo began to dig through his bag, looking for his practicing sneakers. “Oh crap,” He muttered after a minute, seemingly more desperate in rummaging through .
“Hey Ken—”
“No.”
“You don’t even know—”
“You want me to get your sneakers right? No.” Kenma reaffirmed seriously, moving to get away.
“Wait! I’ll get you some apple pie? And we can play video games later!” Kuroo pleaded, hands clasped together as if that would benefit him in anyway possible.
Kenma paused, enough for Kuroo to assume that he had caught the boy in his grasp. “I left it in 3-5, thanks buddy!”
As the captain walked away, Kenma hoped his glare was strong enough to burn through Kuroo’s messy bed of hair.
With a groan, Kenma excited the gymnasium, a string of profanities muttered under his breath. On the bright side, at least he had an excuse to skip out on most of the practice. He hated sweating and overworking himself, that much was true. But he’d rather spend the time not practicing, by paying games, not fetching Kuroo’s shoes.
The school was relatively empty at this time of day. Some classrooms were occupied with non-sport related clubs, like Science Olympiad or the Anime Club. Turning down the hallway, he approached class 3-5 wearily, hoping the door wasn’t locked. Kenma didn’t want to have to request a pair of keys from the office when that was even further away.
Wrapping his fingers around the doorknob, he twisted it open— oblivious to the shuddering figure until it was too late. On the other side of the room, he found you, slumped over a desk, your face hidden under the comfort of your arms. He recognized you almost immediately, even though the only sign of familiarity was found by looking at the back of your head. You were... crying? That much was obvious, but he had no idea as to why. His eyes softened, a small pang rang throughout his chest.
The window’s shutters were cracked open, each row allowed a portion of sunlight to seep into the room. The soft light danced on your skin with delicate care, and for a second, Kenma forgot why he was even there. There were times where he altered reality to fit the circumstance, and he could safely claim that he wasn’t imagining you as some sort of extraterrestrial being. It was just you, a natural you, and everything you came to be.
He shifted to leave the class, not wanting to interrupt whatever was going on with you. Forget Kuroo’s sneakers, he’d just have to play without them. Unfortunately, the Gods were not on his side. The door head creaked a little too loud and he his kneel had accidentally shifted on top of a creaky floorboard in orderly fashion. Your head snapped up to inspect the intruder.
Seeing you more clearly, Kenma noticed your puffed eyes and red cheeks, a huddle of tissues tightly grasped in your hand. Your eyes soften a little when you realize it was someone you actually knew. “Kenma-san...”
Your voice came shaken and hoarse, a contrast to the laughter and clarity in which you usually communicated in. Kenma shifted awkwardly before deciding that leaving would only be worse. “I told you it’s just Kenma. I don’t care for formalities.”
“Right,” You sniffled, taking a tissue to obnoxiously rub your nose.
Kenma winced, knowing that anywhere around you was a place he wasn’t particularly fond of. Wherever you went, you attracted social butterflies. So where were all the butterflies now? It certainly wasn’t Kenma— if anything, he had yet to hatch, still struggling to escape his cocoon.
“Have you seen Kuroo’s sneakers?” He asked, not knowing what else to say.
“His desk is that one—” You hazily gestured a finger across the room, eyes closed to block the tears while you did so. Your directions weren’t very specific, which meant you were little to no help.
He didn’t bother pushing you.
Thoroughly, he checked the desks, eventually finding a pair of shoes neatly tucked away. Kenma could only hope they were Kuroo’s and not some random person’s athletic wear. Slowly, he hugged them against his chest and turned towards you— still unsure of what to do. The silence was awkward, too thick to even begin to cut away at.
“Why are you crying?” Kenma decided to ask bluntly, not waisting any time in beating around the bush.
You peer at him, certainly surprised by his minuscule endearment. “I-I’m not... I just, uh... had some dust in my eye?”
It was obvious he didn’t believe that.
Hell, you wouldn’t have believed that either.
You sigh dejectedly, “I’m just really stressed lately. My parent’s have been on my head about grades and I can’t deal with it anymore. Kuroo’s trying to help me but with this big test I have tomorrow, I don’t think I’m going to pass; even with his ‘excellent’ guidance.”
Before he had a chance to respond, you laughed aloud, “Sorry! Sorry! I didn’t mean to drop that all on you! You can just ignore that!”
He blinked. Y/N L/N— known for being the life of the party. You, some untouchable quote on quote ‘goddess’ wasn’t as cheerful as you made yourself out to be. Kenma had never really taken a liking to you, that much was evident in his nature, but it was reassuring to know that you were also human.
At that very moment, where the sun caught your eye in a dazzling reflection, he felt just a bit more closer to you.
“You’ll be okay,” He finally voiced aloud, noting how long his silence spanned. You hiccuped, though he figured it was a good sign your tears weren’t as free falling as they once were. Awkwardly, he continued, “I mean, you’re smart, yeah? So... I’m sure you’ll be fine or whatever.”
“Kenma...” You stared for longer than he anticipated. He gripped Kuroo’s shoes in anticipation. You blew into your tissue before you said, “I thought you hated me!”
He deadpanned. So, you did notice how uncomfortable he was around your loud presence— but you just didn’t care.
“I don’t hate you... and I don’t like seeing you cry either. So let’s just get to practice, yeah? People are worried about you.”
Kenma didn’t know where that came from, but it seemed fitting in that moment. And more than that, it was honest. Seeing you cry, seeing you falter from your usual personality– was not something he wanted to see again. He liked your annoying voice, and your quipped laughter. Though, even upon the realization, he’d still prefer to take you in small doses. Not all at once, but completely ignoring you didn’t seem right either.
You gingerly stood up, discarding your disgusting moist tissues in the trash. He sighed in relief as you took advantage of the hand sanitizer mounted against the wall and quickly scrubbed your hands.
Turning back to Kenma, you smiled you’re pretty smile. It took him by surprise at how much he missed seeing it. In quick steps, like a predator approaching thier prey, you stood before him— placing a light kiss on his cheek in thanks. The feeling of your lips on his skin made him warm all over, and a part of him was glad you had pulled away as quickly as you did, because he certainly wouldn’t have been able to last much longer.
Your eyes were still swollen and your cheeks still puffy, but you still looked undeniably you– perfect.
Though, maybe next time, he’ll admit that out loud.
The Cats and The Owls Going Shopping - Haikyuu!! Light Novel Vol. 10
In which Nekoma and Fukurodani go souvenir shopping, and Tsukishima’s life somehow gets unnecessarily more difficult as a result.
Translation under the cut
“So, what are you getting?”
“... Probably manju...”
“Then how about that one with ‘I went to Spring High’ on it? If you want to go with a safe option.”
“That? A safe option?”
The goods area is lively with the participating players, cheer groups, and spectators around. There, gathering and joking around are the players from Fukurodani Academy High School who have just won their first match. The first, second, and third-year regulars are all there. However, in the midst of their lively chatter that’s just like during one of their after-practice burger runs, their ace is nowhere in sight.
“Ohh, there you are! Guys, I told you not to leave me!”
Making his way through the crowd of people in team jackets and jerseys, appears Fukurodani’s ace who is one of the nation’s top 5 players, Bokuto Koutarou.
“Why did you guys leave me?”
“Why should we wait for you to finish your business in the toilet?”
Talking back to the ace is none other than the one dubbed as the team’s ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’, Konoha Akinori, but Bokuto pays him no mind and takes a look at the goods stand instead.
“So, do they still have it?”
“... What is it this time? You always, always leave out the subject when you speak. What are you, a kid?”
Konoha continues his rant, and Bokuto turns around annoyed, “Oh, come on!”
“This is exactly why, when someone is saying something, don’t just start grumbling around! Of course I was asking about ‘The Way of The Ace’ t-shirt!”
The way Bokuto said it as if it’s obvious does irk him, but hearing his teammates’ chorus of “You already have it, right?” “I feel like you already have one,” calms him down.
“Well I do have it, but...”
Time for some explanation.
‘The Way of The Ace’ t-shirt—it is Bokuto’s favorite t-shirt which he bought during the previous Spring High.
“One, his figure shall inspire his allies” “Two, he shall break through any walls” “Three, he shall hit every ball with his utmost”
With those words of The Way of The Ace printed on it, any ace, any player aiming to be an ace, or any former ace—any of them would yearn to put it on and have those words on their back while they practice; a t-shirt that makes even national level aces’ mouths water. Small details like if it is a Spring High exclusive item or if it could be purchased somewhere else are totally unknown to mere highschoolers.
“Not just have it actually, I’m wearing it right now, but...” Beating his own chest covered by his jacket,  Bokuto continues to his questioning teammates.
“If you think about it, it’s obvious, right? As I get bigger, I won’t be able to wear it anymore. So I need another one.”
His teammates around him look at each other and start grumbling.
“Are you a mom?”
“Thinking that you’re still growing, how confident!”
“I think I want to see you wearing a t-shirt that’s already too small instead.”
“Like I’ve said, why do you guys always start grumbling every time? Whenever I say anything you always, always... Hm?”
Bokuto’s eyes light up. As if they just spotted a prey.
“Tsukki!”
What those eyes just spotted in the midst of the hustle and bustle is the face of Karasuno High School’s first-year middle blocker, Tsukishima Kei. Having won their first match earlier than Fukurodani, the members of Karasuno High School Volleyball Club are also spending brief free time right now.
“Tsukki! Heey! Don’t ignore me, heey!”
His complaints towards his teammates now forgotten, Bokuto smiles cheerfully and waves his hand. But Tsukishima, whose attempt to pretend he didn’t notice Bokuto has failed him, frowns and says, “... Hello,” politely nodding to return the greeting while his steps comes to a halt.
However, Bokuto pays no mind to the wall Tsukishima has put up and steadily closes the distance between them.
“Could it be, Tsukki is also here to buy ‘The Way of The Ace’ t-shirt?”
“No.”
“It’s fine, it’s fine. Don’t be shy!”
To whoever looking at the scene, there’s no hint of any shyness in Tsukishima’s soured look. Bokuto’s teammates start saying, “He’s not being shy, right?” “Clearly he doesn’t like it,” “It’s harassment, harassment!” “Tsukishima, it’s okay to ignore him,” but Bokuto simply ignores them. Instead, he completely assumes the role of a reliable senior and calls out to to the staff manning the goods stand.
“Ah, excuse me! Can I have one ‘The Way of The Ace’ t-shirt size L... no, XL, and... Tsukki, you’re quite lanky, so L would be fine, right?”
“.........”
Tumblr media
Met with how close Bokuto’s face is, how loud his voice is, how inconsiderate he is, and how wrapped up in himself he is, Tsukishima knits his brows and refuses, “No need.”
“Ah, could it be that you wanted to buy that one instead?”
The item Bokuto pointing at is a t-shirt hung up with the words ‘Those who laugh at grit will cry in the face of grit’ written in calligraphy-style on it.
“.........”
As if he just saw a bug he hates, Tsukishima looks away from the ‘Grit and Laughter’ t-shirt.
“I’m not buying any t-shirt, and even if I have to, I won’t be buying that one.”
“Hum... Then what about a Fukurodani keychain? As a memento.”
“Why do you think I would want that?”
“What did you come here for then, Tsukki?”
Tsukishima hesitates for a moment.
‘Why should I answer it?’ As he thinks that, it also crosses his mind that he might be able to escape Bokuto’s persistent questioning if he just answers him this one time. He weighs both choice in his head, and by a small margin, the latter wins.
“... I’m getting souvenirs for my family.”
While paying for his ‘The Way of The Ace’ t-shirt, Bokuto hums and nods nonchalantly.
“Tsukki is someone’s child too, huh...”
“What does that even mean? And could you please stop calling me Tsukki?”
“Yeah. So Tsukki, how many siblings do you have?”
“.........”
‘—What is communication again?’
Is what Tsukishima is thinking. The basic of conversation is listening to what the other party is saying, isn’t it? Listen, then respond. There are also cases where someone purposely avoids responding to what the other party is saying. However, to naturally not listen to the other party, then proceed to continue the conversation, what is that even called? While having such thoughts, Tsukishima accidentally lets out the answer to Bokuto’s trivial question.
“... One older brother.”
“Aah! I knew it! You seem like a youngest child! Tsukki does seem like a youngest child!”
Right before Bokuto, who is holding his new t-shirt in high spirits, Tsukishima is stricken with humiliation and self-loathing. ‘Why did I answer it? No, why did I even come here?’
The other Fukurodani members starts piling in on him again, “Bokuto, don’t mess with other school’s first year.” “I get it though, Tsukishima is the type you just want to mess with, right?” “True, he’s like Akaashi in some way.” “Eh?” “Kidding, kidding. Don’t mind it.” “I do mind.” The chatter continues as they enjoy this accidental occurrence as though it’s their after-match dessert. At the same time, students from other schools are starting to notice the Fukurodani’s ace. Chatters like “It’s Fukurodani,” “Bokuto is here,” are getting louder.
Tsukishima’s discomfort is at an extreme.
“.........”
‘Who cares about souvenirs, I’m heading back. I can still buy it tomorrow, and even if I don’t buy one, it’s okay too. Anyway, I’m heading back.’ Tsukishima has decided.
“Well, then,” Tsukishima says as he goes for an out, but right when he looks up from his forced smile, his eyes catch a group in red and he stops in his tracks.
Suddenly, a group of Nekoma players are nearby. A blond mohawk, a half-Russian, and a rooster head.
Tsukishima instantly covers his face and turns the gears in his head.
‘What do I do now?’
If Nekoma’s Kuroo Tetsurou joins this pesky situation as well, it will be a repeat of the summer training camp. The summer training camp where he got involved with the Tokyo team captains combo of Bokuto and Kuroo. Although he can’t deny that he learned a lot in terms of volleyball, those were the days where the psychological stress he endured drained both his mental and physical energy.
The unintentional peskiness and the definitely intentional peskiness. The peskiness of facing these two opposing types of peskiness at the same time is no ordinary peskiness. It’s not a peskiness that a body could endure after a match.
‘Are they gone?’
He steals a sidelong glance to check, expecting the group in red to be blocked by the crowd or go look at goods on the other end of the area, but it turns out they’re still nearby. Just as he clicks his tongue, he senses someone staring at him.
He quickly lifts his head and is met with the eyes of Nekoma’s setter Kozume Kenma.
“.........!”
“.........!”
Both of them tense up. And then with the smallest of nods, they establish some sort of communication in an instant.
‘Please don’t come this way.’
‘I don’t want to go over there.’
With the reaction speed of only those who have faced each other countless times separated only by the net, or perhaps the reaction speed of only those who equally find this to be extremely bothersome, due to their mutual interest they both look away as if nothing happened.
Good thing it’s Kozume who noticed him. Relieved, Tsukishima is just about to quickly take his leave from this place when just like an unexpected ambush, his ears catch a voice.
“Ah! Bokuto-san is over there! Ah, Tsukishima too, heey, heey!”
The one bouncing up and down pointing at him is a Nekoma first-year, Inuoka Sou. Bokuto who notices him goes, “Oooh!” in response, and Nekoma’s captain Kuroo asks, “What are you doing here?” drawing near with a smirk on his face. Behind him, Kozume puts on an expression that says ‘It’s not my fault...’ and averts his eyes.
---
Surrounded by the Tokyo reps in red and white jackets, Tsukishima has completely lost his timing to escape. Towards the weary Tsukishima, Nekoma’s captain Kuroo calls out in teasing voice.
“So what were you going to buy before you get caught, country bumpkin crow?”
On the receiving end of the mysterious pressure from the smirking Kuroo, Tsukishima could only mutters, “Nothing, really...” and looks away, trying to find any chance to escape this place. And right then, without knowing, Bokuto cuts in and says loudly, “Eh? Tsukki, you’re getting souvenirs for your big bro, right?”
Tsukishima’s face clouds over.
‘Why only my brother? I said I’m getting souvenirs for my family, though,’ he thinks irritatedly, but since they won’t get it even if he said it, he stays silent.
“.........”
But because he stays silent, now it’s Kuroo who hums and poke his head into this matter.
“I knew it, Tsukki is a youngest child, I was correct”
Tsukishima’s face gets even more clouded over.
‘What do you mean by knew it? What do you mean by correct? Please don’t just spout random things,’ he thinks irritatedly, but even if he said it, he would end up having to explain more, so he stays silent.
“.........”
But even if Tsukishima doesn’t say anything, or probably because Tsukishima doesn’t say anything, the Tokyo captains who already know his personality end up getting excited and saying whatever they want.
“By ‘knew it’, could it be that you already knew Tsukki is a youngest child?”
“That’s just my observing eyes.”
“Awesome, you could make a living out of it, no?”
“Huh? What kind of job would that be?”
“What would that be.... Ah, I know, you could become something like game show king, right?”
At that very moment, Nekoma’s second-year wing spiker Fukunaga Shouhei who has been quietly listening to their conversation from the corner suddenly bursts into laughter.
“Eh, what? Was there anything funny? Did I say something funny? Eh?”
The sharp-eyed Bokuto spots Fukunaga and approaches him. Nearby, 3 people of different schools and school years let out a sigh at the same time.
“I have no words.”
“Isn’t that something?”
“No words...”
In sequence, the those were the words of Akaashi Keiji, Tsukishima, and half-covered under Haiba Lev’s shadow, Kozume who has been working hard at his mobile game.
“Th, the three of you, the three of you... Together like that....”
On the receiving end of the judgmental cold stares from players of 3 different schools including his own, Bokuto exaggeratedly buries his head in his hands and looks down in shame.
Noticing Bokuto’s back which is starting to tremble, Fukurodani members are starting to get nervous. “Ah, this is bad.”
They don’t want things to get any more bothersome than this. While the end of their match today was a blessing in disguise, it doesn’t change the fact that dealing with Bokuto’s ups and downs is bothersome.
The Fukurodani members exchange glances on the spot, but as they were about to leave things to Akaashi, the subject of the matter suddenly looks up to the ceiling as if he just had a revelation.
“So! That means! Unless you three are together, you can’t bring me down, right!!”
As if drawn by that voice, the surrounding falls silent. “I’m the strongest!” Bokuto’s roar resounds.
“.........”
The Fukurodani members look at each other. “We’re tired anyway, should we just leave Bokuto and go back?” “Yeah, let’s go,” “Good job today,” “Heading back,” The mood is just starting to turn that way when someone in red jacket approaches Bokuto all on his own.
“Bokuto-san, you’re so cool!”
It was Inuoka.
“Ooh, so you get it! So-and-so-kun!”
“It’s Inuoka!”
“You have a bright future ahead!”
“Is, is that so!?”
Inuokas eyes light up brightly.
---
Not being particularly concerned that their important first-year is getting excited with Bokuto and leaving them on their own, the rest of Nekoma take their time to look at the goods.
“It’s not like I want anything that badly, but while looking at these you just know you’d end up buying something, right?” “Yeah, totally.” Started by their libero Yaku Morisuke, the Nekoma members joke around. Behind them, walking along leisurely is Lev, who then points at the manju box.
“As a souvenir, isn’t this one with ‘I went to Spring High’ on it good? It’s a safe choice.”
“Safe choice? But saying ‘went to’ doesn’t really give the vibe that you won, right?”
Hearing Yaku’s reply, the vice captain Kai Nobuyuki nods.
“True, it gives the vibe of the memories of when you played at Spring High, right?”
“Well, if  you put it that way...”
“The fact that it’s gone once you eat it will also remind you of the impermanence of worldly things.”
Ignoring Kai and Lev who are looking intently at the manju box and admiring it, Yaku quickly decides, “I’ll go with the t-shirt after all!” and heads towards the booth staff.
However, not long after Yaku comes back dragging his steps without any t-shirt in his hands.
“What happened? You look upset.”
“Sold out,” Yaku curtly answers Kai. From above him a booming voice can be heard.
“Spring High t-shirts are a battle after all, right!”
It’s Bokuto.
“A battle?” asked Yaku reflexively. “Yeah!” Bokuto nods.
“Another battle out of the court.”
Watching Yaku avoiding Bokuto’s thrust index finger, Fukurodani’s member are stunned.
“He’s saying something weird again.”
“He got carried away just because he managed to buy one...”
“Bokuto, don’t go bothering others!”
In the midst of Fukurodani and even Nekoma members’ wry smiles, Inuoka shouts excitedly.
“I managed to buy a t-shirt too!”
“Ooh, so you’re a winner!”
“Yes!”
Casting a sidelong glance at the weird master and pupil relationship between those two, Kozume asks Yaku.
“Which one did you want?”
“Hm?”
Yaku points at one of the t-shirts hung at the stand.
“Over there, that one. The one with ‘Those who laugh at grit will cry in the face of grit’”
“... Grit...”
Behind Kozume who’s furrowing his brows, Inuoka turns around.
“Eh? That’s the one I just bought. It’s this one, right?” Inuoka takes out a t-shirt from the plastic bag and shows it. It’s the same ‘Those who laugh at grit will cry in the face of grit’ t-shirt.
“If you want, I don’t mind handing it over at the list price.”
Yaku refuses Inuoka’s offer, “Nah, it’s fine.” But Inuoka insists.
“No need to hold back!”
“It’s fine.”
“But!”
“Like I said, it’s fine!”
Just as Yaku raises his voice, Lev suddenly stretches out his hand and takes the t-shirt from the stunned Inuoka. Then, after looking back and forth, he says, “I knew it.”
“Eh, what?”
Ignoring the confused Inuoka, Lev looks at Yaku.
“XL size won’t fit you, right, Yaku-san?”
The Nekoma members who are watching shut their mouth tight and look away.
Lev has the nerve to say unnecessary things, towards Yaku, towards Yaku-san, regarding heights in such a direct way. No, to begin with, Inuoka, no rather than that, Bokuto— the thoughts swirl in their heads, and the atmosphere grows tense. The one to break the tense atmosphere —that makes even the crowd of onlookers from other schools nearby to also falls silent— is none other than Yaku himself.
“Shut up!!” At the same time, in one decisive move Lev shouts.
“Ouch!! Wha! Why did I get kicked?”
“Winner, what winner? I’m not losing!”
“But I didn’t say anything about winning or losing!”
“Shut up!”
A battle is starting to unfold between the senior and junior in red jackets. But a guy calmly walks right into the center of it.
“Hey now, Yaku-kun!”
It’s yet again Bokuto.
“Nothing will come out of resenting the winner!!”
Seeing their captain confidently saying that, the Fukurodani members go, “You just shut up!” “You only say unnecessary things!” and drag Bokuto back.
---
As for Tsukishima, he’s only a worn out bystander watching the whole commotion.
“What are these people doing...”
‘No one is minding about me anymore, or more like they’ve forgotten about me. If I want to head back, this is the time. No need to say bye or anything. Seems like it’s not the time anyway.’
‘I’m getting out.’
Just as he turns his heel, bright and pleasing voices can be heard nearby.
“It’s so cute!”
“I’m so glad we bought it!
At those voices that warm their bodies that have grown cold just like the winter sun, the Nekoma members, Fukurodani members, and also Tsukishima who is just about to escape, spontaneously look up.
The voices belong to two girls.
Lev, who is being chased by Yaku, and Yamamoto Taketora, who is trying to save Lev, look at them and shout.
“Ah, Nee-chan!”
“Akane?”
“Lyovochka!?”
“Onii-chan!”
The girls are part of the Nekoma cheering group, Lev’s big sister Alisa and Yamamoto’s little sister Akane.
“Look, look, Onii-chan!”
Akane runs up and hands the plushie of the official mascot.
“I bought this. The one in light blue is this year’s limited edition. I’m matching with Alisa-chan, right!”
“Yup!”
“Ah, that’s right! Alisa-chan, let’s take a picture together!”
“Oh, how nice!”
Hanging the plushies by their sides, they make silly faces and take selfies. First is a smiling one, and in the next shot they burst into laughter. It’s as if bright sparkles can be seen around these two innocent girls.
It might be the effect of the sparkles, but the tense atmosphere is starting to lighten slowly. The embroiled minds of the volleyball club members are also soothed, and they lose their intent to fight.
‘Don’t we all get along?’ ‘That’s right.’ ‘I’m also tired.’ ‘Yeah.’
Such atmosphere is spreading.
And then Kuroo shows up right before the two girls and bows.
“If anyone is a winner here, it’s the two of you.”
“Eh, what is this about?”
“... Ah, do you want to join in on the picture?”
In front of the two puzzled girls who have no idea what’s going on, Yaku and Inuoka exchange a firm handshake.
“My bad, Inuoka. You were offering it with good intention.”
“No, I also didn’t consider the size, I’m the one who should apologize!”
After rain comes fair weather. Watching the two’s strengthened bond, Bokuto, as if a case has been settled, says, “Out of the court, there’s no such thing as winning or losing!!”
---
“I’m so tired somehow,” “Yeah, I wonder why,” the Fukurodani members start. After exchanging glances, Akaashi speaks up as if he’s been waiting for this exact moment.
“Then shall we head back soon?”
“Yeah.”
“If we leave Bokuto, he’ll make a scene again.”
“Let’s go back, Bokuto!”
The captain, called by his teammates, replies “Okay!” and run towards them. He says, “See you tomorrow!” towards his rivals and heads back.
“We’ll come again tomorrow!”
“Do your best!”
After the two cheering girls headed home, Nekoma members too, say, “Should we go as well?” and start walking away.
Among the drove of the leaving members, Lev mutters.
“Yaku-san, are you not going to say sorry to me?”
“As if.”
“So mean!”
Completely forgotten by the two teams, Tsukishima is just about to walk back when suddenly someone calls his name.
“Tsukishima!”
Waving his hand and running towards him is Hinata.
The drained Tsukishima feels relieved seeing that face.
‘If it’s only Hinata on his own, everything is under control...’
Thinking that, without even waving back or responding, he silently walks with Hinata.
“Hey, Tsukishima, did you buy anything? I bought a t-shirt! This, ‘The Wisdom of The Ace’...”
Hinata is about to take the t-shirt out from the plastic bag when Tsukishima gives him a glare and says as he walks past, “... Don’t ever speak of that again in front of me.”
“Eh?”
Surprised, Hinata stops in his tracks, but Tsukishima quickly moves ahead. Hurriedly chasing Tsukishima, Hinata shouts, “What is it! I haven’t even said anything yet! Hey! Tsukishima! Wait, hey!!”
Moving this PSA to the end of the post because the project has ended (I think? Waiting for Viz’s response now) but someone might still be interested. Or you know, you can spam Viz directly here lol.
PSA:
I encourage whoever reading my translation to please support the official release by buying the light novel if you can. The illustrations and bonuses like the reversible covers are delightful! AND if the novel gets more sales it will be more likely for us to get more release. But, I get that it might be difficult for some to spend money for a novel that you can’t actually read because it’s in Japanese.
And so I happened to saw this Twitter account @HQlntranslate the other day. They are trying to get VIZ to do an official English release for Haikyuu Light Novel. How great that’d be! We could get every single chapter translated by professional translators who know what they’re doing unlike this amateur translator wannabe lol.
Anyway, what I’m trying to say is, go visit the Twitter account and fill in the form so that we can get the light novel released in English and support the series!
PS. I swear this is not a sponsored post lol.
Kozume Kenma x bestfriend!reader
Tumblr media
𝕡𝕣𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕠𝕦𝕤 - 𝕤𝕖𝕣𝕚𝕖𝕤 𝕞𝕒𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕝𝕚𝕤𝕥 - 𝕟𝕖𝕩𝕥
[a/n: It’s 3am so I’m not sure how well I proof read this but here’s part 2 of cheater, cheater, pumpkin eater, this one is slightly angsty so, enjoy! -yours truly, bunnyy -`ღ´- ps. Trigger warning: (y/n) gets catcalled]
Today, the coaches decided to do a joint practice, meaning that both the guys’ club and the girls’ club would end up having a practice match as well. You were pumped. You had practiced with the boys before but never had a full on match. You bounded excitedly into the gym, smirking once you spotted Kuroo and dashed towards him.
“(Y/n)-” Kenma watched in amusement as you jumped onto the captain’s back, clinging onto him like a koala.
“ACK! What the-” Kuroo turned his head, your noses were inches apart.
“Hello~” You smiled before jumping off of him.
“(Y/N)!!” You turned towards a smiley Lev.
“My child!” You shouted, arms open. He made his way towards you and wrapped you up in his arms. Picking you up and spinning you around. Your eyes widened as you gripped onto his shoulders for dear life since you were a good 500 ft off the ground.
“Lev! Be careful!” Yaku scolded before Lev stopped and put me down. Dizzy, you stumbled around before Kenma caught you in his arms before you could trip on air.
“Thanks Kozu..”you mumbled, hiding your face in his shoulder so no one would see you blush. Kuroo smirked when he saw Kenma blush and look away so the others wouldn’t see his flustered expression.
“Alright everyone! Let’s start with passing drills! Let’s go!” Coach Nekomata instructed. A chorus of groans, including your own, rang throughout the gym. “Did I hear correctly? You guys want punishment dives around the gym? No? Then hustle!” He chuckled. The two teams split up, gathering on either side of the court and started passing drills. The boys took a break while the girls did their spike/blocking drills since they had only set up one net.
Kenma couldn’t stop himself from watching as you bent your knees in a squat, readying yourself to set up for a spike. The way the black spandex hugged the curves of your hips, the way your supple yet firm thighs strained against the shiny fabric--
“Wow Kenma~ So naughty, staring at (y/n)-chan like that~” Kuroo teased his friend. Anyone else would’ve thought that the pigment on his cheeks and his chest heaving for oxygen was from all the physically strenuous activity but Kuroo knew better. You had literally stolen his friends’ breath away. They both watched as you jumped, back curved in the perfect form for a spike before the palm of your hand met the ball in a powerful swing and you sent the ball straight down, the sound of it smacking against the hardwood floor was intimidating. There was a reason why you were the ace of the girls’ team.
Kenma smiled as he watched you land on the ground, victorious grin splitting your lips while you gave a little fist pump in the air.
The rest of the girls went before they switched with the boys to take their break. The entire time, you couldn’t take your eyes off of Kenma. Sure, his spikes and blocks were a bit lack luster but when he was setting up the ball, you couldn’t look away. The way his jaw was clenched, the way his eyes were sharp and focused, and his hands...how they pushed the ball up into the air and--
“You’re staring again.” An amused voice snapped you out of your trance.
“I know Kenji, I just can’t help it.” You sighed quietly, your captain giggled and patted your shoulder.
“I take it that you still haven’t told him.” She handed you your water bottle.
“Of course I haven’t.” You scoffed before taking a greedy sip of water. “He’s been my best friend since we were babies, he could never see me as more than that.” She just rolled her eyes.
“I honestly do not understand how you could be so oblivious.” Kenji muttered before the coach blew the whistle. It was finally time for the match.
After a vigorous match, and going to 3 sets, the boys won. That meant that the girls had to clean the gym. That was your least favorite thing about volleyball. The clean up. So there you guys were. Collecting volleyballs, putting the net away, and mopping the sweat and spilled water off of the floor before finally being able to shower and change back into our uniforms.
“Hey Kenji!” She had stopped and waited for me to catch up. “Me and the guys are going into downtown to grab a bite to eat, wanna come? Kuroo’s gonna be there~” You wiggled your eyebrows. You and her were pretty good friends and you knew for a fact that she had a FAT crush on her fellow captain.
“Stop that...” She groaned, playfully flicking your forehead. “And as much as I’d love to join you, I can’t. I have an essay to turn in tonight and I have done absolutely nothing. Maybe next time.” She smiled.
“Alright then, see you tomorrow.” You squinted at her skeptically.
“Goodbye! Oh and don’t be late for morning practice tomorrow!” She called as you jogged towards the exit of the school.
“I won’t!” You called over your shoulder.
“It’s about damn time.” Kuroo threw his arms up dramatically.
“Shut up beanpole, we had to clean the ENTIRE gym.”
“Maybe you should just win the match next time.” Lev shrugged smugly.
This made you gasp in mock offense, “Do my ears deceive me? Is my baby boy insulting the ace of the volleyball team when he can’t even properly bump receive a ball?”
“Senpai!~” He whined, jutting out his bottom lip in a cute pout.
“Plus, that setter dump that Kenma made last minute was totally uncalled for.” You huffed.
“That’s kinda the whole point, (y/n).” Kenma looked up from his game with a small grin.
“Whatever Kozu...now let’s go! I’m starving.”
You guys took a short 10 minute train ride to Downtown Tokyo before making your way to the convenience store that had THE BEST ramen ever. You and Yamamoto paid for your food, the others grabbing whatever they were going to munch on. As you waited for the ramen to cool, you got an idea. There was a trend going around tiktok where you dance in front of your s/o, or your friends or whatever and you’d secretly record their reactions and you had made sure not to send any to Kuroo or Kenma for the sole reason of being able to get their reactions. So you set up your phone and angled it perfectly so it got their reactions but it looked like it was recording you.
“Do you have to do that here?” Yaku groaned playfully in annoyance.
“You’re just jealous cause I get more likes on my videos than you.” You grinned, sticking your tongue out at him childishly. Kenma watched quietly as you set the timer and took a couple steps away from the phone. The countdown started, and when the music flowed out of the speaker, his eyes widened slightly when you started to dance. He couldn’t deny how cute your little smile was as the video went on.
“OOH SENPAI~ You’re so good at dancing!~” Lev, ever the hypeman, grinned and continued to give you compliments. Kuroo followed along, doing the moves while in his seat. Inuoka bobbed his head to the music as he watched you dance. Yamamoto was just slurping up his ramen while watching you. All of the reactions were what you had expected. What you hadn’t noticed was Kenma’s reaction. He was watching intently over the top of his psp as you danced, blush evident on his cheeks, lips parted slightly is awe. They were all pretty tame reactions, the song ended and you grabbed your phone.
“Ooh let me see!” Kuroo reached out for your phone. You handed it to him and made your way to grab your ramen.
“Hey!” You turned as someone called out, there was two boys standing a little ways away.
“Hey?” You asked, confusion evident in your voice.
“You’re pretty cute, are you single?” The one that had called to you smirked.
“Uhm...yeah? ” You frowned when he disgustingly ran his eyes over your figure.
“Oh come on. A girl like you, with a body like that? There’s no way you’re single.” The other bit his lip.
“Well I am and I’m definitely not interested in either of you so...you can go.”
“Ooh feisty! Don’t be shy cutie, we were enjoying the show.”
All 6 boys were watching in disbelief and anger.
Kuroo’s fist clenched at his side, he had kinda hoped that Kenma would say something but knew that confrontation wasn’t his thing but he sure as hell looked angry.
“You heard her. She’s not interested so move along you dweebs.” The captain had gotten off of the bench and came over to you. His 6′2 figure towering over your own as he slung an arm over your shoulder and pulled you into him protectively.
The two boys scoffed. “Why do you care? You’re obviously not her boyfriend.”
“That’s true but we’re her friends...and you’re making her uncomfortable.” Lev had also stood up and made his way toward you and Kuroo with the most intimidating face he could muster.
“You should get out of here douche bags, if you keep bothering her, it won’t end well for you.” Yamamoto put down his ramen and made his ‘intimidating’ scowl. Kuroo noticed that you were gripping the back of his vest tightly and your eyes were shining with un-shed tears. Even though you had come out of your shell since he met you, he knew that intense social situations like the current one, made you extremely uncomfortable.
“Whatever man, she seems like a prude anyways.” One scoffed in offense.
“She should take it as a compliment. She’s in public in such a short skirt and dancing around like that, she’s basically asking for it.”
“You two idiots better shut your goddamn mouths right now and leave.” Kuroo growled. “It’s pathetic to think that you deserve anything from her after being so disrespectful.” Kuroo growled. That was the final nail in the coffin. The two boys dismissed it and finally walked away, muttering profanities under their breath. “You okay?” Kuroo asked softly once they were a good ways away.
You bit your lip to stop it from trembling and could only nod as you slowly pulled away from him.
“What jerks, I’m sorry (y/n).” Yaku comforted.
“Yeah, no one should disrespect our senpai like that.” Lev nodded determinedly, Inuoka nodded in agreement. You weakly nodded and sat in between Kuroo and Kenma, appetite gone. Kenma’s heart thumped painfully when he noticed a tear or two slide down your cheek. He took a deep breath and slipped his hand into yours, interlacing your fingers with his and holding your hand so softly. You pushed the feeling of butterflies in your belly aside and leaned your head against his shoulder. He pulled out his earphones and gave you an earbud.
Frowning in confusion, you put in in your ear and he put the other in his. Your confusion was quelled when he opened tiktok and went to his favorites. The first video he pulled up was of a frog in the front pocket of someone’s overalls.
“I’m gonna get one, you know.” You sniffled, a soft laugh leaving your lips.
“Of course you are.” The smile never leaving his lips as he looked down at you. He had to restrain himself because he was at the perfect angle to kiss your forehead, and he so badly wanted to give you a sweet kiss and comfort you after the incident that just happened. After years of being friends with you, he knew how much you enjoyed physical touch. Mainly hugs and cuddles.
After a couple of minutes, everyone finished eating and whatever and decided that it was time to go home. Everyone went their separate ways after saying goodbye.
“Uhm hey, did you maybe want to come over? We could do homework then maybe play some animal crossing? I can show you how to blackmail Tom Nook.” His offer made you grin.
“That sounds great Kozu.”
“Great. Do you have your Switch?”
He watched as you patted your bag and gave him a thumbs up. “Always.”
He quickly shot his mom a text to let her know you would be coming over. “My mom wants to know if you’ll stay for dinner?”
“How could I pass that up? You know I love her cooking.” His heart skipped a beat as he sent his mom your response.
The two of you continued to walk to his house, talking about the possibilities of a parallel universe.
“But it’s not ridiculous Kozu! Seriously, just hear me out. What if the shows and movies we’re watching are things that actually happened in a parallel universe. Like, what if ‘A Silent Voice’ was a real thing that happened in a universe where people’s everyday lives were televised as tv shows and movies in our universe.”
“That seems pretty unlikely, (y/n)”
“Does it though? Does it really?” You squinted at him.
“Yes. That’s like saying that someone in a parallel universe is watching this exact conversation happen, as we speak, on their tv. Just listen to how ridiculous it sounds.”
“But it doesn’t! That’s my point!” You flung your arms in the air.
He shook his head fondly as you guys reached the front door and he unlocked it. “We’re home!” He called quietly as the two of you slipped off your shoes.
“Oh, welcome back! (y/n), It’s wonderful to see you again!” His mom came and gave you a big hug, one that you happily returned.
“It’s good to see you too! I hope I’m not intruding.” You smiled nervously, you were literally there a couple days ago.
“Don’t be silly, sweetheart! We love having you here, come over whenever you like. Even if Kenma isn’t here, just come in and we can have some tea.” She smiled sweetly.
“I think I’ll take you up on that offer.” Kenma watched the interaction as his heart filled with warmth.
“Do you two want a snack while you wait for dinner? I can cut up some fruit if you like?” You and Kenma looked at each other and nodded.
“Yeah, that sounds good mom. We’re gonna be doing homework in my room.”
“Okay then, don’t overwork yourselves!” She called as you two made your way upstairs. Once in his room, he handed you the sweats that you keep in his drawer and one of his pullovers. While you changed, he pulled on his own sweats and a black t-shirt.
You put your clothes on the spinny chair at his desk and sat beside him on his bed. “So, what first? Chem or math?” You asked, placing your binder down in front of you.
“Hmm Chem, just so we can get it out of the way.”
A couple minutes in, his mom knocked and came in with two bowls of cut fruit. You missed the way Kenma blushed when his mom gave him a knowing smile before she left the two of you alone. The unit you were working on was fairly easy, the only bothersome things were all the damn conversions you had to do.
“Why is this even necessary? Like when am I ever gonna need to know how to change the measurement of boron from mole to kilogram?” He was going to answer but he noticed that it wasn’t directed at him, he watched in amusement as you shoved a strawberry in your mouth.
“Ha, boron...” the amusement in your voice was clear, even when it was muffled by strawberry. With a shake of his head, he looked back down at his notebook.
“Finally!” You tossed your binder onto the ground. “Now teach me how to blackmail that annoying little racoon.” Kenma chuckled at your enthusiasm as you grabbed your Switch from your bag. He sat up against the headboard and you crawled into the space next to him, instantly snuggling into his warmth.
“Alright, so here’s how you do it-”
So there the two of you were. He had an arm around your waist, his hand was resting on the top of your thigh. He hadn’t really realized how touchy he was being, neither had you. It wasn’t necessarily the first time the two of you had cuddled but it was different this time around. Kenma subconsciously felt guilty for not doing more earlier, for not doing more to protect you. So, he was overcompensating for it now.
You frowned as you looked up and called out to him softly once more. “Kenma...kenma~”
“Hmm?” He blinked a couple of times before meeting your eyes.
“Is everything okay, Kozu?” You put down the game and turned your body so you could get a proper look at him. At his hesitation, you grew more worried. “Kenma what’s wrong?” He knew you wouldn’t take a shrug of the shoulders or a mumbled, ‘nothing.’ as an answer.
“Well, I-I just feel like I failed as your friend.”
“Why do you feel like that?” You bit your lips nervously.
“Because I didn’t do anything to defend you earlier, I just...sat and watched while those guys disrespected you and made you uncomfortable.” He was looking down at his lap, refusing to look you in the eye.
“Oh Kenma...it’s okay. Really. You didn’t have to say anything. Only you could comfort me like you did. No words needed, just cuddles, and frog memes.” He felt pride swell in him at your words, “Please look at me Kenma.” He hesitantly looked into your eyes. “You could never fail me. Ever.” You wrapped your arms around his waist and nuzzled into his chest. He had a MASSIVE blush burning his cheeks. “You’re always there for me when I need you, and I don’t thank you enough for it but I really do appreciate it, Kozu. I appreciate you.” His blush started to cool down as he wrapped his own arms around you. He held you and relished in your warmth. He was confused and a little flustered when you looked up at him, an unknown emotion in your eyes but he felt it. The sudden tension between the two of you as you glanced down at his lips before looking back into his eyes.
He couldn’t help but lean into you, it was like you were a gravitational force that was pulling him in.
“Kozu, I-” he could feel your breath on his lips, your soft voice pulling him into a trance. Your forehead met his, he nervously looked into your eyes. This was very new to the both of you. Hearts beating erratically, both of you hoping the other couldn’t hear the thunderous thumps against your rib cages. Your lips looked soft and plush, he wanted to feel them against his own. To taste them on his own. His sudden confidence surprised him, and you, as his hand shakily came up to cup your cheek, thumb running over your cheek as the tension grew, breaths getting heavier. Heavy eyelids slipping closed when-
“Kids! Dinner is ready!” The sudden shout from his mom causing a squeak to leave your throat as you both jolted away from each other. Kenma quickly climbed out of the bed, standing awkwardly and fiddling with his hands.
“We should-” He swallowed heavily, “We should go eat.”
“Right...we should.” He frowned when the statement that left your lips came out as a dejected whisper. He followed as you walked out the door and down stairs, greeting his father before sitting down for dinner.
Even though you were smiley and enthusiastic throughout the meal, he could feel that you were somewhat upset.
He thought about it as he laid in bed after you left, picking up his phone, he scrolled before finding Kuroo’s contact.
To Kuroo: I think I messed up....I don’t know what to do
Once you got home, you couldn’t stop thinking about what happened. Was Kuroo wrong? Maybe he really didn’t like you like that...maybe you were wrong. You couldn’t stop the tears that had collected in your eyes as you grabbed your phone.
To Tetsuhoe: I guess I was right, I am just a friend
Kuro Tetsurou:
It was finally the weekend, the boys had just finished their volleyball practice and you and Kuroo were on your way back to his for your Annual-December-Weekend-Movie-Marathon. Cool name right? Anyway, the manger of Nekoma, Jay, had just finished locking up and saw Kuro waiting for her by the vending machine. Walking over Kuro passes Jay a soda and proceeds to hold her hand.
“So what are we going to watch this time?” Jay asks as she take a sip of her drink, “I swear to god if it’s the polar express again, I’ll drown you in hot chocolate.” Kuro chuckles and grabs her unoccupied hand, “You say that but I know you love the film, sweetheart.” “Don’t ridicule me you ass hat” Jay says in fake annoyance. “What can I say? It’s fun to tease you” His ever lasting smirk makes Jay want to hit him but unfortunately her hands are full.
Jay rolls her eyes as she sees that they’re just now coming up to the schools gate. “If we stay at this speed we’re never going to get back. Was volleyball to hard on you, Captain~” Jay chides, teasing him back from his comment before hand. “Well I don’t know if you can see, kitten, but it snowed last night and I’d rather you not fall and be whining all through out watching polar express that ‘it hurts’ and that I should ‘kiss it better’. So you should be thanking me.”
The comment makes Jay fluster as she finish’s her drink and throws it away, “Hey! I thought I said no polar exp-“ Jay pauses in her sentence when she see the rest of the volleyball team are all standing around grinning, “what’s up with them?”
Turning around (and letting go of kuroo’s hand) Jay spots kenma launch a snow ball at Yamamoto. Kuroo instantly starts to cackle while Jay stood there in shock and proudness “I knew he had it in him”, Jay whispers whilst wiping a fake tear from her eye.
Just as Kuroo finally calmed down from laughing, he cracked up again as Yamamoto missed throwing a snowball at Kenma and hit Yaku. “Wahhh Yaku so you’re so tiny that it must of been luck that the snowball hit you” Lev commented which therefore caused Yaku to throw a snow ball at Lev and a while snowball war to start out.
“I’m not even going to question how this happened, so let’s just leave and not get dragged in-“ Jay whistles and try’s to turn around to sneak off, whilst dragging Kuroo with her. Jay was definitely not going to give up cuddles just to get cold in the snow. But alas, the universe has different plans for Jay and her main character life.
On their way out Lev threw a rouge snowball and it hit Jay square in the back of the head. God help Lev against Jay’s overprotective (and dotting) boyfriend. “Hey! Do you want to run double laps Lev!” Kuro shouts as Lev frantically apologises, “it was an accident Kuroo I swear- Jay, I’m sorry! Tell the bad man it was an accident!”
Whilst kuro was telling Yaku to keep Lev on a leash, Fukunaga throw a snowball at Kuroo, right in the face bless him. “That was cold as ice,” he giggles to him self.
Jay instantly burst out laughing “Fukunaga that was comedy ‘cold’! And the faCE KURO MADE AHAHA! Oh god I’m crying that was hilarious, you deserve a raise for that oh my-“
Jay stopped laughing as snow filled her mouth making her cough. The cackles of Kuro and the muffled giggles from the team were heard as Jay slowly stood up from her previous laughing fit on the floor.
Jay swiftly snatched the snowball Lev was making (which in turn made him whine, but Yaku stuffed snow in his mouth whilst Inokua tried to stop him-) and aimed the snowball at Kuros face, at close range might I add, and threw it into his cackling open mouth and closed eyes, which made him choke.
After Kuro stopped dying, Lev of course had to say something “that’s karma for throwing a snowball at our pretty managers face”, which irk’ed Kuro. “I’ll show you pretty you damned giant!” Kuro sneers and throws another snowball. Which unfortunately for Kuro, hit Kai. Which then began another war.
After an hour or so had past, and being covered in snow and cold to the bone, the volleyball team went inside to get changed, and dry off, in the locker room. Jay and Kuro started on their ways back to Kuroo’s, with his arm draped over Jay’s shoulder, and her arm wrapped round his waist. Slowly catching her breath, Jay breathed an airy laugh, “I gotta say, I didn’t expect to be dragged into a snow ball fight when I woke up this morning,” she smiled, “although I can’t complain, as you did get a face full of snow”.
“Says the one who got snow thrown in their mouth!” Kuro retorts, smirking. “Yeah! Well! At least I wasn’t the one who choked on the snow!” The look Kuro gave Jay made her realise what she said, “hey wait, don’t-“. He swiftly cut her off “ but you’re the one who chokes-“, Jay jumped and tried her best to cover his mouth, “LA LA LA I CAN’T HEAR YOU-“.
His eyes held amusement as he pries her hands away, “you know, that was our first snow ball fight.” Realisation flashed in Jay’s eyes and a giant smile came across her face. “Oh yeah! It didn’t snow last year” Jay comments and grabs kuro’s hand to continue the walk, “well I enjoyed it, especially now that we can get back and we can cuddle and get warm.”
Looking up at the sky Jay smiles fondly “Although it’s cold, this will still be one of the best memories that I’ll treasure with you and the team in”. Kuro’s eyes wondering slightly before a genuine smile settled across his lips, not his usual smirk. “Well then I’ll just have to warm you up in my arms and make more unforgettable memories”.
Coming to a stop a few blocks from Kuro’s house, he hugs Jay tight around the waist as her arms come to instinctively curl around his neck. Jay looks into his eyes and smiles cheekily, “well my lips are cold too.”
With a smirk and a whisper of “I think I can warm them up”. Kuro dips his head as his lips connect to hers in a soft kiss. Pulling back slightly Jay smiles at him. “We should hurry up, or else we’ll never get back,” with another peck to his lips Jay detaches her self, “I want more kisses and cuddles when we get in.”
With a laugh, they both continue back. It’s safe to say this is the best winter that Jay had ever had.. and Jay knows that as long as she has Kuro, all winters will be the same. Nothing seems more perfect than this.
XOXO
Bokuto Koutarou:
Bokuto always took things to the extreme, and Christmas was no exception.
The house was blitzed to the max with decorations, the biggest tree there was, and a hundred lights that light the front lawn.
But the activity that Bokuto loved the most, was gingerbread decorating.
So that’s what Jay and Bokuto did Christmas Eve Eve (as Bokuto says) because patience is not in Bokuto’s vocabulary.
“Are you sure you know what you’re doing” Jay’s eyes glimmer in amusement as she watches Bokuto stack icing covered gingerbread biscuits on top of each other. “I know what I’m doing, I’m an expert at this type of thing! I wasn’t the ace of Fukurōdani for nothing!”.
“Bokuto that was four years ago,” Jay sweat drops but doesn’t bother pressing into the matter, “and with how tight you’re squeezing that bottle, the top looks like it’s about to blow off”. It was true, with the excitement and determination to finish his gingerbread tower? Stack? Thing?, his knuckles were slightly white from squeezing the bottle too hard.
“This bottle is as tough as nails!” He proudly declares, “nothing can break this bad boy-“ maybe it was the fact he spoke too soon, or his icing cover face and hands that made Jay laugh and grab the table to stable herself; but either way she was in stitches.
“W-what was you going to say-“ even speaking was hard when you were dying from laughter, “as hard as nails, eh?”. The tick mark on Bokuto’s forehead increased with every comment; until he exploded.
“YEAH, WELL, HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT IT WAS AS SOFT AS KUROO WHEN HE LOOKS AT WOMAN” Bokuto _screamed_, it went silent. A pin drop would of sounded like an earth quake.
“Did you just-“ Jay cut herself off as she stared at Bokuto, deadpanning. Flushing red he rubbed his face to get the icing off, instead making it worse. “Now you just look like a clown,” Jay’s comment makes his hair deflate a little so Jay quickly rephrased what she said, “a hot clown that is my lovely boyfriend!”
A proud smirk soon returned to his face as mischief flashed through his eyes, which in turn made Jay raise an eyebrow. “Well every hot clown needs a stunning clown!” Realisation hits Jay like a brick as she waved her hands around frantically, “h-hey! W-wait a minute,B-Bokutooooo!”
Bokuto pounces on Jay and knocks the both of you to the floor, with Bokuto on top of you, gripping Jay’s hands with his; whilst rubbing his cheek against Jay’s simultaneously. “Now we’re clowns together! All we need now is a baby to make a clown family!” The comment is enough to make Jay flush, but Jay quickly push it down as she sits up and Bokuto slips to the floor. “At least give me a ring first” Jay jokes as Bokuto’s hair sticks straight up and stars shine in and around his eyes, “Marriage is the key to a clown family!! I’ll start the preparations and we can have a gingerbread tower cake and-“ before Bokuto can ramble anymore Jay presses a finger to his lips which stops him in his rambles, going cross eyed to stare at her finger.
Meeting back with Jay’s eyes, fondness is swirling within her irises, “oh I love you, you big good,” a massive smile etches on to his as he tackles you to the floor again, changing “I love you! I love you!” Over and over.
“Alright, alright!” Jay fondly holds him back, “let’s get tidied up and then we can discuss the marriage deal with the gingerbread tower cake”
Summary: Ennoshita announces to the Karasuno volleyball team the next captain. Said future captain doubts he's the best choice for the team.
Link Above, Fic Below
The Karasuno volleyball team was done for the year. They had made it the 3rd round of the Spring Interhigh tournament, barely missing the spot they had reached the previous year. The team had filed into the bus, not quite as sad as they thought they would be. They were too busy cheering for their friends on teams’ success. Hinata was practically vibrating with glee that Nekoma (mainly Kenma) had won it all, lamenting that they didn't have a chance to play against each other this year. Tsukishima was a bit ruffled from being stuck between Kuroo and Bokuto for the Nekoma vs Fukurōdani match. Yamaguchi was surprised his friend could still hear, especially since Hinata was just as loud as Bokuto.
Ennoshita called for everyone to gather around him when the bus brought them back home. “I have a few announcements to make.”
“We’re getting meat buns!” Hinata interrupted.
“Maybe,” he said. “My fellow third years and I were talking on the bus--”
“Don’t tell us you’re leaving!” Yamada, a first-year, cried.
“Well, we…” the rest of his sentence was drowned out by Hinata and the other first years. He waited silently for them to finish. When that finally happened, he cleared his throat. “Now, we’ve decided that we would still like to be a part of the club until graduation,” he was cut off by cheers and he held up his hand to quiet them. “That being said, we can’t dedicate that much time to club anymore. Entrance exams are on the horizon for us and we need to focus on that. We’ll still be around but not as much. That means we have to appoint a new captain and that’s Yamaguchi. Congratulations. Good job everyone, I’m proud of you all and I’ll see you at practice.”
With that, the third years and first years disbanded, congratulating Yamaguchi as they left. Yamaguchi himself was standing in stunned silence.
Yachi hugged him. “Congratulations Yamaguchi!”
“That’s so cool that you’re the captain!” Hinata exclaimed. “Oh! Kageyama should be your vice captain and I can be the ace!” He beamed.
“And what would I be?” Tsukishima asked, looking very unimpressed with his teammate.
Hinata thought for a bit. “You can be Tsukishima!”
“Great,” he deadpanned.
“Why me as captain though?” Yamaguchi asked quietly. “You’re all better at volleyball than I am.”
Hinata tilted his confusion. “Do you not want to be captain?”
Yamaguchi fiddled with his hands. “It’s not that…”
Tsukishima nodded, as if he knew what he was thinking. “But you didn’t expect to be.”
Yamaguchi nodded in agreement. “Maybe we should vote on it. That way the worthiest candidate will be captain.”
Kageyama frowned. “With just the five of us?”
“Sure,” Hinata said. “We’re gonna ‘inherit’ the club anyway. That’s what Sugawara-san always said. Besides, this doesn’t even count. Ennoshita makes the final decision.”
“But we could always take it to Ennoshita-senpai and get him to change it,” Yamaguchi offered nervously.
“Well, let’s vote then,” Yachi said. “I’ll say each person’s name and the one with the most votes gets captain.”
“What if there’s a tie?” Hinata asked.
Kageyama scoffed. “Dumbass, there won’t be a tie.”
“You don’t know that, Bakayama!”
“If there’s a tie, they’ll play Janken for it,” Yachi said.
Tsukishima seemed unimpressed. “We’re placing the fate of the team on Janken?”
Yachi smiled. It seemed nice but was a little on the threatening side. “It won’t come to that. Now, second place should get the vice captain spot, only if the captain approves. Everyone ready?”
The boys nodded.
“Hands up for Tsukishima.”
No hands went up.
Tsukishima shrugged. “Good call.”
“Hands up for Hinata.”
No hands went up.
Hinata pouted. “Awww.”
“You didn’t raise your own hand,” Kageyama pointed out.
“You can’t vote for yourself, stupid!”
“Yachi never said you couldn’t, dumbass!”
She sighed as they looked to her for ruling. “You can vote for yourself. Hinata, do you want a re-vote?”
He shook his head.
“What about you, Tsukishima?”
“Nope, I’m good.”
“Okay, moving on. Hands up for Kageyama.”
One hand went up.
“And hands up for Yamaguchi.”
Four hands went up and Yamaguchi pouted at being outnumbered by the rest of the second-years.
Yachi clapped. “We have a winner! Congrats again Yamaguchi! And congratulations to Kageyama for having the captain’s vote! You’ll make a great vice!”
Kageyama blinked owlishly. “What?”
Hinata pulled him down the road. “Congrats Kageyama! I’ll buy you a meat bun this time! And milk!”
The pair continued their trademark bickering until they were out of sight, Yachi following not far behind them. It looked like they probably wouldn’t get much studying done that night. Speaking of which…
“Your place or mine?”
Yamaguchi blinked. It was just him and Tsukishima now. “Huh?”
“We were going to study for our math test, remember?”
“Of course I do. Can we go to yours?”
Tsukishima nodded and they continued down the road to the Tsukishima residence and they didn’t talk much about Yamaguchi’s new appointment.
---
“Um, Ennoshita-senpai? Can I talk to you for a moment?”
Ennoshita turned from watching the first-years. “Hmm? What’s up, Yamaguchi?”
Yamaguchi nervously passed the volleyball he was holding between his hands. “Can I ask you something?”
“This is about the captain position, isn’t it?”
“How’d you know?”
Ennoshita gave him a small smile. “Because you looked as confused as I did when Daichi-san told me that I would be captain. Toss me that.”
Yamaguchi tossed him the ball.
He caught it and motioned for Yamaguchi to follow him. They stopped in an unused corner of the gym and Ennoshita gently bumped it to his kouhai. The two fell into an easy rhythm before Ennoshita spoke.
“So what’s your question?”
“Why me? I mean, the other three are more skilled than I am.”
Ennoshita made a humming sound. “I guess that’s true in a technical sense, but there’s more to being a captain than skill alone. If that was the case, Tanaka or Nishinoya would be captain over me.”
“But you were a great captain, senpai.”
“Thank you, and you’ll be a great one too. You wanna know how I know?”
Yamaguchi nodded.
“Because you make the most sense to be captain. You’ve done the most growing as a player and the other second-years will only listen to you.”
Yamaguchi chuckled nervously. “I’m not sure if that’s true…”
Ennoshita raised an eyebrow. “No? Would Hinata and Kageyama listen to Tsukishima.”
He cringed. Tsukishima as a captain was kind of a scary thought. “No, they wouldn’t.”
“Would Kageyama and Tsukishima listen to Hinata?”
“Definitely not.”
“And would Tsukishima and Hinata listen to Kageyama?”
“No…”
“Exactly. They’ll listen to you because they respect you as a person, player, and teammate,” Ennoshita smiled fondly at him. “You and Yachi are going to take good care of the team.”
“But I’m not sure if--”
“Do you feel like you don’t deserve it? You work just hard as everyone else and then some. You can’t stay on the bench forever. Do any of the other second years have a problem with my decision?”
“No, we even voted on it.”
Ennoshita chuckled.
“Senpai…”
“I’m sorry, Yamaguchi. I’m guessing they all voted for you?”
He nodded. “They did.”
“And who did you vote for?”
“Kageyama.”
Ennoshita was quiet for a moment. “Kageyama huh? Does second place make him your vice? Especially if you were the only person that voted for him.”
“That’s what Yachi said the rules were.”
“He’ll make a good vice. He has the skills to be a good captain but not quite the personality. He’d be afraid he would revert back to the King.” He caught the ball. “He’s grown beyond that, of course, but the fear’s still there. Take care of him, okay? You two will help each other grow.”
Yamaguchi smiled. “Yes, senpai.”
There was a loud crash behind them and the bickering voices of Hinata and Kageyama.
Ennoshita gave a long suffering sigh. “I swear, they’re not even mad at each other. This is just a habit for them at this point.”
“I’ll go talk to them, captain.”
Ennoshita smiled. “I should be calling you that. Get you used to it. Have I answered your questions?”
He nodded. “Yes.”
“Good, now get over to those two before Tsukishima makes it worse.”
Yamaguchi quickly turned to the scene. “Tsukki no!”
---
After all the commotion settled, Yachi handed a bottle of water. “You handled that well. That maybe stopped their fighting all together.”
Yamaguchi laughed. “I doubt it. To be honest, I’d be more worried if they weren’t riling each other up.” He passed the bottle back to her when he was finished.
She smiled. “Did you have a good talk with Ennoshita-senpai?”
He nodded. “I did. I feel a bit better about all this now.”
“You’ll be a good captain, Yamaguchi-kun.”
“And you’re an amazing manager, Hikota-chan.”
She laughed. “Stop flattering me and get back to practice.”
As he returned to the court, he still wasn’t 100% sure he would do a good job, but he was slowly and surely gaining the confidence in himself. He knew he had support whenever he needed it. Ennoshita did have a point. He was the logical choice for captain next year and he couldn’t disappoint.
He wouldn’t disappoint. He grinned. Maybe he’d take them to Nationals next year.
Request: Japanese tutor Kuroo and English tutor reader
Tumblr media
My first request from one of my very best friends @karasunoquick big uwu to you 💖 You know that I can't say no to you.
This was supposed to be only fluff but for some reason a bit of angst made its way in there. Idk how that happened. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!
"Why are English grammar rules so complicated?"
"Kuroo, focus."
"There are too many rules, I'm tired."
You let out an exasperated sigh, placing your pencil next to your workbook. Kuroo has done more complaining about the English language more than he has studying it. It's not like you could just walk out and leave him to his devices. If Kuroo doesn't pass English this semester, he can't graduate.
Besides, Kenma paid you 10,000 yen an hour to tutor him.
"Okay, let's just take a break from English for a bit." You reach into your bag for your Japanese worksheets, being careful not to show him the tests with less than stellar results. "Help me with Japanese."
"Finally, a language that makes sense." You roll your eyes as you take out your Japanese worksheets, careful to hide your less than stellar marks away from the prying eyes of the Nekoma captain.
Other than the fact that Kuroo desperately needed help in English, he agreed to be tutored only so he can help you with Japanese literature. You're not failing, far from that. You just want a better grade to up your GPA.
However, it gets a little tough. You moved to Japan in the middle of your first year in high school. Even if you've been frequently speaking it for a few years now, it's harder to write it down and read it.
Reading regular sentences is fine but throw in some idioms, riddles, and ancient symbolisms with kanji that you didn't think actually existed? Might as well blow your whole brain into smithereens.
And Kuroo uses that fact to tease you into the next century.
"You made it into a question again, [Name]."
"What?"
You look down at your worksheet and, true enough, you ended up writing down the bull is on the other side of the road, right? Instead of the bull is on the other side of the road.
You groan and erase your mistake with a breath of frustration. Kuroo laughs.
"It's always that extra particle that confuses you."
"At least my grammar is not as bad as yours in English," you point your pencil at his condescending little face. "You fail one more test, you flunk the subject."
He leaned back into his seat with a huff. "I won't be speaking English all the time, anyway."
"Well, I won't be speaking Japanese once I leave after I graduate."
The playful air around you dies in an instant. Kuroo's expression darkens as the tension is pulled taught like a string.
It's the elephant in the room. You both knew that you were going to go abroad for further studies but Kuroo always skirts around the subject.
Because the moment he acknowledges it, the more real it becomes.
"You'll still visit, right?" He asks, fiddling absentmindedly with the pages of his worksheet. His eyes are looking at anything but at you.
"Of course," You say, placing your pencil down and turning your body towards him. "What would my life be like without your smartass remarks?"
"Dreadfully boring, I suppose."
You laugh, hesitantly reaching forward to still his fidgeting hands. Kuroo still won't look at you but you know that he'll listen anyway.
"I'll always come home," You lean forward to try and get him to look into your eyes. For a split second, you do lock gazes and the uncertainty that clouds his mind comes to a standstill.
"I'll always come home to you."
He breathes in sharply, searching for any sign of doubt in your eyes, but he couldn't find it. Kuroo leans forward too, until your faces are mere inches apart.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt to visit you too every now and then," He teases but there was no malice in his tone. "Would that be alright?"
You smile and place a chaste kiss on his lips. When you pull away, he's pouting for more and you laugh at the ridiculous expression on his face.
"Go ace your final English exam first and I'll think about it."
You turn back to your worksheets, not even trying to hide your blushing cheeks as you answered the questions. You could feel Kuroo's eyes on you, but you couldn't see his dopey little smile.
No language in the world has the words to describe what you mean to him. What you are to him ever since you first met.
But every language in the world will have the word love.
And that's all that he'll feel for you.
In regards to the newest chapter of Haikyuu!!, can I say how happy I am that Furudate sensei hasn't shown any "quite decent players, probably could go pro, but anyway they didn't for this or that reason" in pro careers?!
It would be so unrealistic and looks more like fanservice than a solid storyline.
Of course, by me saying that, it means I do have a list (?) of people that I think will and won’t go pro. Yes, I know, unless I am Furudate, I can’t really pinpoint who will be pro athletes and who won’t be. But I believe, we as dedicated fans, can all at least make some sensible guesses about that.
Now, moving on. The players that I actually think would go pro so far have appeared in manga as pros (cheers me!). As for the rest of them, I’ll try to break it down by teams coz it’s easier and tidier. Mind you, I’m not athletic and can’t do any sports at all. So technique-wise, I can’t explain much. I go by intuition and deep thinking for pretty much all of my guesses below. So if you’re going to read my analysis (?) or opinion (?), please don’t be too harsh on me just because I can’t give you the logical reasons behind it. Maybe, I should apologize in advance for this.
Karasuno (brace yourself, it’s gonna be long)
Kageyama is the first one. I honestly can’t see any other career choice for him except going pro and finally be a coach after he retired. Kageyama has been playing and practicing volleyball the longest, since he was 7 (Hoshiumi too). And this is the reason why he’s so far ahead of everyone. Also, he’s even worse than Hinata in school, so there’s no way he went to university to me. So, pro it is.
Aside from Kageyama (and Hinata, but I believe I don’t need to explain Hinata to you coz we’re currently the viewers of his journey to be a professional player), I can only see Nishinoya going pro. For me, he stands in the same category as Kageyama. And he’s not going to university with a brain like his. Not trying to be rude or belittling him, but I just can’t see Nishinoya voluntarily enrolling in college. Other than that, Nishinoya is one of the best Libero in the series. It still bothers me even to this day, that he wasn’t invited to the Youth Camp with Kageyama. But I think I understand why: there are just too many great Liberos and The Youth Camp wouldn’t be able to hold everyone there. Besides, there’s the “positioning after receiving thing” that Kageyama had to tell him. Who knows if Nishinoya has been doing that for so long?! An observant scouting staff or professional coach would definitely think it’s a minus point. And there’s the suspension he got too. Idk about other countries much, but I know how Japan really takes care of their background and portfolio. His suspension may be not for something dangerous like drugs, but it definitely marred his resume for the Youth Camp a bit. But Nishinoya has moved past that now and pro career is not so impossible for him.
For the other 2nd years: Tanaka, Ennoshita, Kinoshita, and Narita, they probably won’t go pro. Tanaka has a higher chance though, and deep down I want him to shine more in volley, but I still don’t think so. Tanaka & Kinoshita look like they will go straight down to labor working right after graduation. Ennoshita & Narita were in class 4 and can be assumed as pretty smart, so college and office working probably.
Tbh, I actually can see Asahi be a pro. But, he’s a bit tricky. It all depends on whether he got scouted after Spring High or not. Coz he already chose not to go to university, so it is not impossible as well. As for the rest of the 3rd years, no. I think they have other things (or a career) that they want to pursue and they are smart enough to do it (Daichi and Suga were both in college preparatory class). Though, I would love to see Daichi graduating from sport science or something and go back to Karasuno and be an assistant coach hehe.
For first years, I don’t think Tsukishima & Yamaguchi will go pro. Same like Daichi & Suga, I believe they both have a dream job in their mind, hence why they chose to go to university. Ofc, they can go pro after graduation, but I have little faith in it. Now, I think Tsukishima wanted to be an archaeologist or something along the line (all those dinosaurs!!!), I would be so happy if it turned out to be true.
Aoba Johsai
Except Oikawa, I honestly don’t think the rest of Seijoh will be pros. Maybe Iwaizumi or Kyoutani, but the others, not so much. On a side note, Oikawa (and Hinata) is the most surprising outta the rest of the Haikyuu!! characters. I mean, I never would’ve thought that he’d fly to Argentina and join a league there. I always think he’d join a Japan team. But I love the element of surprise, so I guess it’s fine.
Datekou
Aone has the best chance. Simply because he has all the necessary skills. But he’s so quiet I can’t guess anything from him. I could be wrong, really. Futakuchi and Koganegawa aren’t so bad either, but Idk tho.
Johzenji
I have no idea, truthfully. But I’m leaning more toward the opinion that no one from the team will continue playing professionally.
Kakugawa
I really really wish Hyakuzawa going pro. He’s blessed with the height and also power. With enough practice, he’ll be great. But that’s just my wishful thinking. I can’t really guess him, similar to Aone.
Shiratorizawa
Ushijima is another one of my “definitely going pro people”. He’s just a complete package. He has the sense, the height, the power, the… everything. It would be a big waste for him to just stop. And Ushijima is a volleyball baka too, so he loves the sport too much to not continue playing.
I also think that Goshiki might try to get into pro teams too, maybe after completing college. I don’t think he’d stop just like that. I mean, after Ushijima retired, Shiratorizawa never went to National again. I think that hit him hard. Especially because Ushijima left the team on his hand as the next ace. I would really love to see Goshiki improving himself and kinda get a revenge by getting much much better than before. But, if he doesn’t go pro, it won’t be really disappointing to me. After all, Haikyuu!! always tries to be as close as possible to real life, and in real life not every good player can be pro.
Tendou is a no no. He said he’d stop and he wouldn’t lie about it. Shirabu is confusing, but I think he’d stop in high school or maybe university. He’s not a bad setter, he’s good, but even within Shiratorizawa, his ability is not better than Semi. He was the starting setter just because he was able to blend into the background and be a support for Ushijima so he could shine. So, I really don’t think he got scouted or still pursuing Ushijima.
For the rest of Shiratorizawa, we didn’t see much of them so I can’t make clear guesses. I apologize once again.
Nekoma
Nekoma is also a bit confusing. But, I could see Lev go pro. He’s not super duper amazing per se (I say this based on his performance up to National, idk how he is now okay), but he has the talent and all those height and power. His progress is fast too. I think it’d catch the scouting agents’ attention.
Now, Kenma definitely wouldn’t go pro and we’re shown that XD. Surprise though, I always had a headcanon that he’d be a pro gamer or secretly doing stock trading. Just never thought he’d be a YouTuber and a company board member (or is it CEO?!). Imagine my feeling when my “simply headcanon” became real.
Kuroo is a bit like Asahi, but I honestly believe he is really smart and probably wanna do something else. I wish Yaku would go pro coz he’s a really top caliber Libero (and I would really like to watch his rivalry with Nishinoya grow more), but he didn’t really show much “ambition” for professional career for me. The rest of the members wouldn’t go pro too imo.
Fukurodani
Now, as much as it breaks my heart to say this, I don’t think Akaashi is going pro. He gives me “doctor/scientist/basically high and smart position vibe” somehow. And he’s very clever as well (all those thinking he does lmao), I think he’d pursue something else. So volleyball stopped in high school or university for him. Idk about the rest of Fukurodani though. I definitely wanna see more of Konoha, but the chance is small.
Bokuto >>> pro for me. Been that for a long time. He doesn’t strike me as academically gifted, but I can be wrong ofc. He could: a) straight going pro after high school or b) finished college then go pro. Either way, he’s definitely pro athletes material.
Inarizaki
Atsumu (I’ll call him Atsumu to differentiate him with his twin, even though I prefer last name tbh) also >>> pro. The reason is pretty similar to Ushijima/Kageyama/Bokuto. He’s just that good. Oh on this, I really should mention that I believe all the Youth Camp candidates are going to be or already pros (this by extension means Sakusa & Komori from Itachiyama).
For the rest of Inarizaki, the ones that will be pro are Aran and Osamu. Aran is awesome and one of the best 5 aces in the nation. I know he would get scouted. Whether he go pro after high school or after finishing college, idk. But he will be pro. I would riot if he isn’t. And for Osamu, it would be really cool if he goes to a different team than his twin and they will fight it out on court.
On a side note, Kita is one of my favorite characters and he’s the one that from personality and mindset, can resonate the most with me. But tbh, I’m certain he’s not gonna go pro.
Kamomedai
The only Kamomedai members that would be pro for me are Hoshiumi and Hakuba. Hirugami is high level himself ofc, but idk, I didn’t get the pro ambition vibe from him, similar to Yaku.
Hoshiumi is another one in my list that I think would be revealed as a pro. He’s small, yes, but there’s a wing spiker in Japan National Men’s Volleyball Team that’s around 178cm, and I believe Hoshiumi has grown around this height too. I mean, Hinata has reached 171cm, so it’s possible that Hoshiumi has grown taller as well. Besides, he’s really really really good. He has one of the highest overall skill after Kageyama. He only lose in power coz well, he’s smaller. After all, there’s the promise he made to Hinata. So a showdown between them will definitely happen. So, I think it’s safe to assume Furudate will make him a pro athlete.
Hakuba >>> same vibe as Lev and Hyakuzawa. He’s tall af. Not many people can reach 2 meters (especially Japanese), so he’d bring an advantage for any pro teams.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention Kiryuu. He’s definitely going pro (or he already is?). I really really like and admire him. His character is so wholesome and amazing, he deserves the best. And that translates to the best career too. I would be so disappointed if he isn’t a pro.
There’s also Tsubakihara High School that Karasuno fought in the first round National. Out of those players, the ace (Teradomari) and their wing spiker (Maruyama) have the best chance to get scouted. But there’s little information that we have about them, so I’m not sure. Furudate might not bring them back to the present. This also applies to Ubugawa and Shinzen High School captains from the training camp. Oh, Daishou-kun is also an interesting character, I would love to see him again. But maybe he won’t come back as pro player tho. But him giving commentaries will be very appreciated hehe.
PS: I kinda wish Furudate was a fic writer, lol. They would be able to write absolute masterpiece of crack-pair fics considering how they are able to make sense of Bokuto-Atsumu and Ushijima-Kageyama, lmao. Who else after this? Hoshiumi-Sakusa? Nishinoya-Kiryuu? XD
Haikyuu Chapter 301, Brainy Kitten on the move (literally ;))!
So, quite unexpectedly for me, as I still quite impassive about this current Karasuno vs Nekoma game, which holds no much (it holds none at all) thrill for me given how it HAS to end, I felt not only pushed at doing a roll with the latest chapter, but I ended coloring its panels the most than I have so far for any other (red is my fav color after all... ;))
There’s this thing Furudate, with his insufferable crowd-pleasing tendency, has done here starting exactly from the COVER of the chapter which has sucked me into (regrettably, he has) and I ended making way more than I was supposed to.
Tumblr media
Then, as I sighed already for it, he started with THIS (these... but in the end THIS) fella and I broke loose...
Tumblr media
I ADORE Tendou Satori.
Properly ADORE.
He is one of the characters I adore most in Haikyuu, and you know already I am also weak to Goshiki... So I knew already from here I would have LOVED this chapter, and I gave in immediately to it I guess, open to what was ahead.
LOOK HOW ADORABLE HE ISSSSSSSSSSS *.* Everything off him is dear to me.
It’s unlikely for me to fall for not handsome characters but Tendou is so peculiar and adorable I cannot help it. *.*
Tumblr media
I also like how Goshiki (who resembles every day more a sibling of Lord Kageyama Almighty... he has the same cut of the eye, although he has no the same colors to it, and he has thicker eyebrows but in so many ways they are looking alike and then you know I am extremely weak to super talents, which Goshiki is so...) is so participant about the games... He is so cute ^.^
I have ALSO to say what it is being said during the Shiratorizawa boys’ commentary is a bit (as usual with Furudate) of a stretch, but more about this later.
Tumblr media
Lovely panel.
The Lord to Tsukki and Tanaka looming... THIS IS GOOD TO ME.
GOOD.
Tumblr media
Let’s start to talk about the game. There are two parallel ways to talk about it.
One, is to analyze what is HAPPENING... which is one thing to consider.
The other, which has to be done to, is to start to understand how (sadly already) Furudate seems to have gone with the route of insanely upgrade Nekoma WITH NO BASES to this kind of development.
He has to, because otherwise what Karasuno has become would be WAY too hard for Nekoma to face, but it still... quite fantasy-like to have suddenly a Nekoma THIS good already.
I’ll explain myself better as things go.
Here, please notice how AGAIN the path play of Nekoma is TO MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR THE LORD to set.
It’s a targeting of the setter which is a natural strategy against Karasuno, and which could be countered in TONS of ways tactically to be stopped, but ALL of these ways would imply a no inclusion of Boku No Hero Karasuno in the game itself and we know already Furudate can’t do it, even though it’d be the logic thing ANY coach would do (double setter set up, setter shifting, emphazising of the defense with the setter out... all of these would require to sacrifice the weakest and shorter hitter, who is also the one who defends worst, but when will ever Furudate do volley good with it? NEVER, we know it already...)
This I am writing concerns what the game is SHOWING right now. Nekoma is as usual very dedicated to defensive plays, and here there’s nothing new:
Tumblr media
I LOVE Bokuto... How can I express so much love... He is so wonderful and free... *.*
So, here we have ASAHI finally blossomed.
It is a believable thing, as Goshiki says, because that is a path which was traced past game(s) and it works with the capabilities Azumane has in his physique and skills.
I like the way Azumane is now, very much.
Tumblr media
Now as I explained also last time, it’s not like Nekoma is ONLY defense though.
By having a VERY, VERY skilled setter and as I wrote abundantly since ever, a FORMIDABLE hitter and ace in nuce LEV, Nekoma can have a wonderful attack too.
These panels are nothing surprising to me.
Brainy Kitty Kenma is a great setter, and of course as any setter would do, he is already playing in his mind what could happen later.
I always laugh when peole who clearly have no concept of volley and have never played it can get shocked at these reasoning Kenma does.
Flashnews... ANY setter HAS to be this way.
It’s part of the job.
Setters rule the court just because they have to do ALSO these reasonings, you scrubs.
And Kenma is a fine, fine, FINE player.
Tumblr media
Here it’s the panel which I LOVED as play goes.
Lev is a FERAL, AMAZING player.
People forget way too often, being all focused on the fictional of Hinata and his lame existence, how Lev was, as a temptative player just starting, able to hit a CC quick “by improvising it” along Kenma in teh first camp where Karasuno met him.
EVEN THE LORD got impressed by him.
This tells more than the rest about Lev’s skills.
Lev has ALL a hitter has to have, in the same capacity as the fictional midget as for athleticism and intuition, but... LOOK AT HIM.
Lev has also what a real ace HAS to have, which The Annoying Orange has not.
HEIGHT.
Which means REACH.
Which means WEIGHT.
Which means POWER.
Lev has it all.
And by having all this, the fact Lord Supreme of Volley CAN STILL SPIKE ON HIM is amazing.
As it’s expected by Lord Kageyama Almighty *.*
Tumblr media
Being Lev this imposing though, helps Nekoma in defending after the Lord’s spike.
It is an effort, but having Lev’s there TRULY is an invaluable plus.
Not only because he still can limit the other team’s attack... but also, OF COURSE, because once Kenma FINALLY does this...
Tumblr media
Lev will be able to do HIS thing, which is THIS AMAZING ONE action, which has gotten me water mouthed for its beauty and timing:
Tumblr media
To have a TRUE TALL HITTER is a bless my poor Lord won’t have, given how we have to stand a fictional midget in the pivot attack role.
Poor my Lord Kageyama, realizing “how high” Lev can spike.
While everyone is amazed at Kenma, people of course have forgotten the way teh attack was made by Lev.
Naturally so, if all those brainless ones are also coincidentally believing anyone like Hinata could survive on a court among taller players.
SIGH.
Anyway...
It’s not like I was not in love with Kenma’s move.
I waited YEARS to see that *.* and then THANX TO IT, I got this page, which goes straight into my personal list of best pages ever in the whole of Haikyuu *.*
Tumblr media
I ADORE LORD KAGS.
He is so PURE, honest, sincere and unfiltered....
While everyone has thought it EXACTLY like him, he is the only one TELLING Kenma what was on his mind (and everyone else’s minds).
He is so amazing. He is also stunningly gorgeous, but then what’s new there?
Lord Kageyama is PRAISING Kenma his own way... and I find it so cute how Kenma retracts... I hope to see more interactions between them, this before the whole game goes to waste with some upgrade from the Midget’s about the Midget’s...
Tumblr media
Here it comes what i was talking about before, as the way this game seems to have improved DRASTICALLY Nekoma in a way which is inconsequential to the facts actually happened in the manga.
I’ll try to explain.
If we assume what Karasuno has done to come here on this stage STAYS (namely, if we take it as a development completely and we have to) then the same shall value for Nekoma.
I mean, for me Karasuno wasn’t good enough to beat Shiratorizawa, but once they have had THAT done, they blossomed to a level INFINITELY better than Nekoma’s one.
Karasuno has beaten Shiratorizawa (a team WAY better than Nekoma, with a SUPER ACE, a SUPER BLOCKER, A SUPER DEFENSE. And TWO very good setters. Karasuno has SURPASSED THAT).
Karasuno has kept WINNING against DATEKO ULTRA BLOCK after Kageyama’s time in National (which has leveled up Kageyama even MORE, and he was already the best setter in the game...).
Karasuno has faced an ultra high toss in the form of Koganegawa’s one already. And they have WON.
Karasuno has faced time ago Hyakuzawa’s SUPER TALL AND STRONG attack.
And got it done too.
Karasuno has BEATED UP INARIZAKI, a team STRONGER than Shiratorizawa (and now we know the two team faced up, so it means past tournament Inarizaki BEAT SHIRATORIZAWA UP, logically).
THIS IS KARASUNO NOW.
Nekoma CANNOT even TOUCH such a development, no matter what. They have won against weak teams and lost with teams which are BY NOW not as good as the ones Karasuno has already won over. If anything is logically clear, is that it is true also Nekoma has evolved BUT in no way it has even by far comparably to Karasuno.
Instead, what we seem to have here?
A Nekoma SUDDENLY completely impeccable in all plays. Where are the limits in their attacks? GONE. Where are the limits their defensive approach was still having THE DAY BEFORE THIS MATCH THEY PLAY NOW? Who knows.
Right now, it seems like all of Nekoma has instantly upgraded TONS.
It’s IMPOSSIBLE. It works because to make Nekoma surrender, Furudate HAS to upgrade idiotically the midget too, but in real volley, to counter a team as Nekoma seems to be now (albeit if we consider who they have played with, and losing, there’s no way Nekoma can currently compare with Karasuno) one should just spare the Karasuno formation, forget Hinata exist and play a bit of the rotation with two setters, allowing the Lord to become a support (feral) spiker too at times.
It will happen NONE of it, we know.
Tumblr media
I love the way this panel is.
The extreme respect and truth Kenma speaks with.
Now Kenma is in potential a FANTASTIC setter. He could be in the same range as Oikawa (the Lord still too talented also for him), but what he lacks CANNOT BE WORKED ON IN A SPAN OF DAYS.
Kenma has NO ATHLETIC prowess.
This for a setter is IMPOSSIBLE to deal with, no matter how good your ball touch is.
And... before the brainless simpletons speak he COULD do it in this game... You can’t become an athletic monster from day to night.
To be frank, for Karasuno to win EASILY against Nekoma, they shall JUST target Kenma. Do what Nekoma is trying to do with Kageyama in reversal. It’d be game over soon.
In a little while, lovely Brainy Kitten would get gassed out because he has not the physique of Oikawa (or the one of the Lord, of course) to sustain extended plays where he has to constantly switch, jump, defend and set. And while Karasuno (if only Furudate would be good) could countermeasure a setter targeting by using TWO setters, Nekoma has only one setter to count on, and they couldn’t do anything about it.
But will Furudate do what ANY coach would do?
NOPE: he will keep adding force suddenly to Nekoma until a powered up Hinata will senselessly prevail over it.
ABSURDITIES.
We are all well used to them from ass-licking Furudate by now.
So I still expect this game to become a thing of hate for me, despite the fact Kitten Kenma is adorable, and Lev is fantastic, and a Karasuno deprived from the Orange Curse as it is now it’s a LOT of my likes.
But it won’t last so... I still ready to shut this game out in the near future.
See ya ;) I leave you with the Bonus:
Tumblr media
Gorgeous.
Perfect.
Amazing.
Savage.
I love him so much... *.*
Bye Bye ;)
part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4 (you are here), part 5, part 6, part 7, part 8, part 9, based on @skygemspeaks‘s prompt
Some days, Kenma really, really loves Kuro. Kuro is amazing in a lot of ways, and there are several occasions Kenma can remember that he was– and still is –incredibly grateful to be with him.
Now is not one of those times.
“You’ll get it back when you greet the first years,” Kuro says, holding Kenma’s PSP above his head, just out of reach.
Kenma stands on his toes, jumping up a little in a futile attempt to get it back. When Kuro just lifts it higher in response, he scowls. “I really, really, hate this.”
“I love you too,” Kuro says without missing a beat, pocketing the console with a grin. “But you’re their senpai now and that means you have a responsibility to them, just like me!”
“What a crappy senpai,” Kenma says quietly, trying not to let his voice shake. It’s a yellow day, edging closer and closer to orange the more he thinks about having to talk in front of so many people.
Kuro’s face softens anyway, like he knows exactly how Kenma is feeling. He probably does, but he lets the act go on; he’s always known Kenma’s limits and stays well within them without coddling him. “I’ll have you know I’m a fantastic senpai. You just don’t count.”
And, well, Kenma can’t really argue with that. He and Kuro have never let the single year between them affect their friendship, and besides, Kenma has always hated power dynamics based on age anyway. Kuroo Tetsurou may seem like the smooth, talented powerhouse blocker of Nekoma, but Kenma knows better; he’s a massive nerd who drools in his sleep and cries at romantic comedies.
Which makes it even more annoying that he’s pulling rank for the first (but definitely not the last, Kenma knows better) time this year, trying to make Kenma step out of his comfort zone and interact with the new kids. Objectively, it’s important. But right now, it feels like a prison sentence.
Said kids are lined up on the other side of the court awkwardly, waiting for the second and third years. Well, waiting for Kenma.
Because that’s not anxiety-inducing.
“I’ll tell you what,” Kuro says, still gently pushing Kenma’s limits– because he has to, because next year he won’t have Kuro to act as a buffer, “I’ll take you out to eat after practice if you play nice with the babies.”
Kenma glares at him. Kuro knows what’s going to happen if he forces Kenma to talk in front of these people, teammates or not, but Kenma knows that as captain, he can’t show favoritism.
“I’ll even get a pie,” Kuro bargains.
Kenma raises an eyebrow. He knows that Kuro knows he’ll have to do better than that after barely skirting death (that is, plucking Kenma’s PSP directly out of his hands in the middle of a boss battle) and trying to rope him into a public introduction.
Kuro sighs, giving in. “Ah, the neutral face of displeasure. Alright, you win. I’ll get you pie and a week’s worth of mochi.”
For a moment, Kenma considers the terms and he can pretend it’s almost okay. “Two weeks. And if you ever touch my PSP again I’m ignoring you for a month.”
“Deal.” The grin returns in full force and Kuro drags him over to the three first years and the rest of the team.
Kenma stands there awkwardly as Kuro introduces himself. “Afternoon, everyone! You’ve already met Kai and Yaku, and the rest of the team by now. I’m Kuroo Testurou, you’re benighted leader and captain, feel free to call me Kuroo-senpai or Supreme Leader Kuroo. I look forward to working with you all to get to nationals!”
He knows he’s next, and his heart is pounding faster and faster with every passing second. He knows Kuro, knows that he wouldn’t ask Kenma to talk to this many people if he didn’t absolutely know he could do it, but that doesn’t make it any easier.
The first years all chorus various versions of “we look forward to working with you” at once. The giant silver one is particularly excitable, and Kenma resolves to stay far, far away from him.
“And this tiny kitten is the brain and beating heart of our team!” Kuro says, patting Kenma on the head. “Say hi, Kenma.”
Kenma blinks slowly, giving himself a moment to mentally prepare. “I’m Kozume Kenma. Second year. Setter.”
That should be enough, he hopes, shoving his hands in the pockets of his gym shorts and looking at the floor. His hair falls into his face, obscuring everyone from view. He can hear his pulse, and not in a good way. He knows the first years are staring at him, waiting for him to say something else, but he can’t–
Kuro’s hand slides from the top of Kenma’s head to his shoulder, squeezing comfortingly. Breathe, he’s saying. You did good. I’ll handle this.
“Haiba and Inuoka, you’ll be working pretty closely with Kenma since he’s the starting setter,” Kuro says, not removing his hand from Kenma’s shoulder. “Shibayama, you two won’t be doing much training together. Kenma isn’t great with receives the way you are.”
“I have a question!” Kenma can’t place the voice without looking up, but the energy and volume lead him to think it’s the silver giant. “What do you mean, brain?”
Kenma fidgets, wringing his hands restlessly in lieu of not having his console. He’s never loved the nickname of “brain,” no matter how accurate it might be. It’s a lot of pressure.
Luckily, Kuro knows this too. “You’ll see eventually, Haiba.”
After that, practice runs about the same as it normally does. The only difference this time is that Kuro lets Kenma sit out the first twenty minutes with his PSP, handing the console to him with a small but genuine (for once) smile and a whispered “I’m proud of you.”
He sits with Kenma for the first few minutes to make sure he’s okay, then joins in because for all the hell Kenma gives him, he’s actually a great captain.
After practice, Kenma is only a little less shaky. That doesn’t mean, though, that he really thinks he’s able to talk to anyone yet. Of course, the universe decides not to give him a break. He’s waiting for Kuro to finish changing when the silver giant runs up to him.
“Kozume-san! Would you toss to me? We didn’t get a chance to practice together today!”
Haiba Lev is tall. That’s the first thing Kenma noticed from the beginning, and it’s the first thing he notices now. He’s massive and energetic and happy and so, so loud.
Kenma resists the urge to flinch away because Haiba is just being friendly and he knows that. So instead he shakes his head and lets his hair fall into his eyes. He can’t bring himself to talk.
Luckily, Taketora seems to notice Kenma’s discomfort and comes to his rescue. “Lev! Come help me clean up the court!”
“Of course!” Haiba turns toward him before seeming to remember himself. “Maybe next time, Kozume-san?”
He sounds so hopeful that Kenma can’t help but nod, still staring at the floor. How could he say no when the guy sounds like Kenma tossing to him is a dream come true?
Lev cheers– so loud be quiet be quiet be quiet –and goes over to help Taketora pick up the gym.
“He’s a good kid, and he has a lot of potential. A hell of a spiker too.”
At the unexpected sound of Kuro’s voice, Kenma jumps about a foot in the air. Kuro holds up his hands in a silent apology.
“I think you’ll like him a lot once you get used to him,” he says. “Don’t you?”
It takes a moment for Kenma to think it over, but he eventually nods silently. Loud though Haiba may be, he’s well-meaning. Kenma hopes they’ll be able to coexist. Maybe even become friends.
Kuro shoulders his bag and looks at Kenma carefully before holding out his hand. “How are you doing?”
Kenma doesn’t move for a moment, then reaches out and taps Kuro’s hand three times. Orange.
Orange is worse than yellow, better than red. Orange means quiet, it means slow, it means touch but not too much. Kuro knows this, and he knows that it’s been a yellow day and Kenma knows he knows why it’s orange now.
“Do you still want to go to the cafe today?”
After a long moment, Kenma shakes his head. He wants to sleep somewhere that’s quiet and free of too-loud, too-happy silver giants that want Kenma to toss for him.
“Okay. Okay, let’s get you home.” Kuro holds out his hand, the sight a little blurry through the curtain of straw-colored hair obscuring Kenma’s vision.
He doesn’t have to look up when Kuro leads him like this, which is the reason they do it. They barely make it outside when the door opens again behind them and the giant rushes through toward the parking lot.
“Uncle Yuri!” he yells in excitement, and Kenma can’t hold back his flinch at the loud noise. Kuro squeezes his hand comfortingly.
Haiba rambles on about how amazing his first practice was, growing quieter and quieter as Kenma and Kuro keep walking. As they walk the familiar path back to Kuro’s house, because it’s closer, Kenma thinks that yeah, he’s really grateful to have Kuro.
Note
Can I request an angsty scenario where Kenmas s/o (who's also his and Kuroos childhood friend) collapses while casually playing volleyball with the two of them and in hospital they find out they have some kind of incurable disease (heart failure for example)? Thanks! (Love your blog btw ♡♡)
You had just tossed the ball to Kuroo when it happened. You felt incredible pain in your chest and suddenly you were feeling lightheaded. You barely registered when you blacked out, the last vision you had being Kuroo and Kenma running towards you. You were sure they screamed something, you just wasn’t sure what. And before you could try and make it out, you were stiff on the ground.
You felt when they squeezed your arms; when they checked for any sort of response you could give and you felt the despair in the air when you couldn’t. You felt Kenma’s arms clutching you tight and the tears that feel on your chest. You also felt when you were carried into a moving van, which you assumed was an ambulance. And you felt when you were put into a bed, where someone stick all sorts of stuff into you. You figured you were taken to a hospital. You felt all that but you couldn’t move. You couldn’t exactly hear anything, just feel the touches and how the AC was spitting cold air into your face - seriously, your face was about to freeze - but you couldn’t do anything. You were unconscious and you knew that.
You don’t know how long it took before you woke up but when you did, you heard a gasp on your left side before fully opening your eyes. When you took a look at who it was, you heart was crushed a little. Your mom was there, crying her eyes out. Well, she had been. Her eyes were red and puffy but as soon as she saw you waking up, she stopped and held your hand tighter.
“My baby!” She cried. “You’re awake.”
She brought your head to her chest and started brushing your hair with her hands but you were having diffulty breathing and you felt pain in your chest.
“Mom.” You breathed irregularly.
She understood you immediately. “You have to put this on!”
She grabbed the little plastic thing that was sitting on your lap. She put it on your nose and you saw that breathing started to feel a bit easier. The pain was still in your chest but you breathed, normally.
Soon after, Kuroo walked into the room, alone.
“Hey champ.” He smiled, a sort of hesrtbreaking sadness in his eyes. “How you’re feeling?”
“Like I’m deep underwater and the pressure is suffocating me.” You managed to say. “Where’s Kenma?”
He looked speechless for a couple of seconds. “He, hm, went to the bathroom.”
“You’ve always been a terrible liar, Tetsuro-kun.” Your mother voiced your thoughts.
“Agreed.” You added.
“I…” He was nervous. In all the years you’ve known Kuroo Tetsuro, which are so many since you’re childhood friends, you’ve never seen him nervous. “Maybe your mom should tell you.”
The said mother nodded at Kuroo as he sat on your right side and she sighed.
“I’ve been rehearsing how to break this to you.” She laughed nervously. “The doctor’s ran some tests on you and… as it turn out, you have heart failure disease.”
You saw as your mom tried to fight the tears, something you thought she was trying for the first time since you went to the hospital, and it broke your heart.
It took a while for you to register what she said. Heart failure disease? Really? It was actually rare for a 17 year old to have heart failure disease. But there you were with shortages of breath and chest pains. As well as coughs, apparently, bad coughs.
“H-heart failure?” You stuttered just as Kenma walked in.
He also had red and puffy eyes, expect his were more apparent. And that means he was crying, just then. Kuroo lied about where Kenma was, because he was crying. Kenma knew about your condition before you did and he had been crying for you. He didn’t want to let you see him cry.
“How do you feel?” He asked, walking near you. Kuroo let his spot to give it to his friend.
“Apparently, like she’s underwater and the pressure’s killing her.” Kuroo quoted you.
You pointed at him. “Yeah, that. And you have been crying.”
Both boys were ready to deny your accusation but it was useless.
“I’m not goddamn stupid, Kenma and Tetsuro.” You said, feeling just a tiny bit annoyed. “I’ve known both of you since forever and I know when either of you lie to me. Specially when Kenma cries and he walks in with swollen eyes.”
“What did you expect?” Kuroo chewed on his bottom lip.
“You don’t have to hide this from me!” You protest. “Apparently I’m dying. Or close to it anyway. I would’ve cried my eyes out if wither of you were in my place. And I know that hiding it would only made you angry, like how I am right now.”
“That’s true.” Kenma mumbled.
“I’m glad you understand.” You looked at your boyfriend. “So don’t pull this bullshit on me, ever again. Okay?”
You stared Kenma into his eyes, hoping you could convey whatever you felt - except for the physical pain, of course. He nodded quietly and you held his hand, squeezing it.
“Baby, ” your mom put a hand on your shoulder, “I’m going to get some coffee. And tell your dad to come in to see you, ok?”
Oh your dad. How would your dad react to this? You figured that if he could, he would kill heart failure disease.
You nodded at her and watched her leaving the room. . Your attention had been on that and you didn’t noticed when Kuroo put a small box on your lap.
“We smuggled this in.” Kenma said, shyly.
“Hospital food is always crap so…” Kuroo added.
You opened the small box to see a fee pieces of chocolate.
“Kuroo had some of it, waiting to see when we could come in.” Kenma accused, laughing a little.
Kuroo elevated his shoulders a bit. “Chocolate’s good.”
You laughed at his dorkiness, coughing midway. You still appreciated the gesture, and put a piece of chocolate in your mouth.
“Thanks.” You smiled. “Chocolate is really good.”
“You know, now I need to go to the bathroom. And since you look about as fine as possible, I’m going.” Kuroo smirked at you, that smirk you’ve been missing. “Keep going strong, kiddo.”
He walked out, leaving you with Kenma, looking at your so pitifully you felt the world was going to end right there.
“They are painfully obvious.” You made the joke, hoping to clear the ‘my-special-someone-is-dying’ air.
Kenma snickered. “They really are.”
You slowly hugged him, letting the tears you’ve been holding back so far.
“Is it selfish?” You asked, quietly. “To cry for myself. Cry for all that I’ll loose. For the future that I won’t get? A future I wanted to spend with you?”
“Just a little bit.” Kenma squeezed you tight, and you felt him crying with you. “But you’re allowed to be selfish right now. You’re allowed to be selfish for as long as you want.”
The Cats' and The Owls' Day Before the Tournament - Haikyuu!! Light Novel Vol. 9: Spring High Inside Story
So I’ve wanted to try doing a proper translation as a practice for quite some time, and I finally made myself work on another chapter. Man, what an experience.
The title is self-explanatory. The story is about the cats’ and the owls’ antics. Translation under the cut.
Toothbrush, towel, I guess I should bring one more T shirt... As Yamamoto Taketora confirms his packed items, the door to his room bursts open. "Not fair, not fair, not fair! I want to stay in a hotel too!" He turns around and his sister Akane is at the corridor with her hands on her hips. "Hey, don't open the door without knocking!" "It's a hotel at the city center, right? It's unfair that only onii-chan will stay there. Unfair onii! Aahhh, I want to stay there too... Luxurious 5 star hotel! Suite room! Bar with a night view!" "Y, you sure barge in with a lot of questions... I'm not staying at such a place, though!" It's true that he won't spend the night at home for the next few nights, but he'll only be staying at a lodging near the venue for Spring High in order to prepare for it. That's it. There's no such thing as a bar with a night view. But his sister doesn't listen and keeps on grumbling, earning a shout from their mom, "Hey, so noisy!", and his sister gets all gloomy. Your brother has a national tournament tomorrow, don't you care about that at all... Taketora is slightly upset and scowls at his sister. "Anyway, what bar are you talking about, you middle schooler. You'll be kicked out straight away." "Hmph, I will be with Alisa-chan, so there shouldn't be a problem." She answers without missing a beat as she enters his room. "Wh, what..." He would love it if she doesn't look around his room as she pleases, but if he words it poorly she'll just say things like, "Is there something that you don't want me to find?” and look around even more, so he doesn't say anything. Lately it seems like his words and his sister doesn't get along well. "Well, if it's Lev's sister I think she'll blend in just fine..." If he scolds her directly, he'll just end up being disliked, so he just halfheartedly replies and shows her the website of a high class hotel. "Alright, but here, look at the reality. This is the cost for a suite room." "Eh, where, where?" ".... 131,652 yen, tax included? What's this, the cost for 1 month?" "Get real! Listen, this is the cost for one night." "Eh!? For one night it's 131,652 yen with tax!? 130,000 yen... How many megaphones can I buy with that..." She makes a girly gesture of covering her mouth with her tiny hand, but the things she wants is weird. Why does she want megaphones? And anyway isn't one megaphone already enough? Well, but Taketora also thinks that in all of Japan his sister would be the middle school girl that suits a megaphone the most. Akane continues stroking her chin. "I could buy a camera too to analyze the opponents’ play... The one with image stabilization..." "Wish for something more middle school girl-like. Why are you like a middle-aged man. See, put your hand away from your chin, put it away!" Akane gasps and her expression changes. "Girl..." she murmurs. Her eyes that looked like those of an old man's just a moment ago glisten, and her hands, one of which was stroking her chin, clasp in front of her as if doing a prayer. "I want to have girls hangout with Alisa-chan in a high class hotel! I want to eat lots of cute, little cakes! It's so unfair that only onii-chan gets to stay there!" "Sh, she suddenly acts like a girl again.... Like I said, the place where we'll be staying is Matatabi Manor! We'll sleep in a large room together like canned sardines, where it'll only cost each of us less than 4,000 yen per night!" "Sardines...? " At Akane's doubtful expression, Yamamoto shows her the website to the hotel Matatabi. "Here" "..... Eh" The aura of Showa era can be felt from the dimly lit picture of the entrance of Matatabi Manor. As she sees that, Akane falls silent and stands up. Without a word, she briskly exits her brother's room. As he faces the door that closes quietly, Taketora murmurs, "At least say something. Your brother feels lonely, you know...”
"Lyovochka ❤️" Haiba Lev who's just about to leave his home stops when someone calls him.
"Hm?" When he turns around, his sister Alisa stands at the entryway while hugging a pillow for God knows what reason. There's no way she only woke up just now, so why, what on earth is she doing, and so he asks. "What's that?" "You won't be staying home tonight, right? Isn't it better if you bring a pillow? People say that you won't be able to sleep if your pillow changes. Right?" His sister pushes the pillow towards him, but he thinks, I don’t need it. There's no way I need it. Why is there a need for me to bring my own pillow!? In the midst of his confusion, he is forced to hold the pillow. "Eh? Wait... Why? Eh!?" "Of course you need our family photo and mug cup as well, right? Hm, what else... Ah, that's right... " She puts the photo down and skillfully places the mug cup on top of the pillow, then she turns and heads into the living room to get some other stuffs. What, what on earth. On top of all these, she plans to bring more. "Wa, wait, nee-chan! I'm not bringing any of these!" "Eh?" Her long hair swings when Alisa stands up and stops. She looks in wonder as she tilts her head and asks, "Why? When you're on a trip, you will feel more at ease if you have stuffs from home with you, right?" "It's not a trip, and I don't need those." "Then at least bring this. Think of it as me... ", as she says that, she holds out a teddy bear. Lev gets crestfallen and his shoulder slumps. "There's no way I could bring such thing. If the senpais found out what will they say... " "Wh, what!" Alisa staggers and powerlessly tumbles down while holding the teddy bear. "To call it 'such thing'... No way... How cruel... To call my dear Misha 'such thing'.... " Looking down at his sister with her trembling shoulders, Lev can't help but thinks, How troublesome. But even if he thinks of that, if he says unnecessary stuffs it will be even more troublesome. If I’m held to stay back any longer than this, I will be late to practice. And if I’m late, I'll get scolded by Yaku-san... "Ah, my bad, my bad! But I really couldn't bring it. Anyway you'll come and see the match tomorrow, right? See you tomorrow, then!" He puts down the things given to him and rushes out. From behind, he heard his sister wails as if it's their last goodbye, "Lyovochkaaaaa!" How troublesome. Lev lets out a deep sigh and heads to school.
Kozume Kenma glances up from his game and asks, "Why are these two already looking so tired..."
Lev and Taketora who barely make it in time for the practice already look as if they have just finished a match. "Shut up, you won't get it, Kenma! Damn you only child" "That’s right! Kenma-san who's an only child won't get it!" Kenma quickly puts some distance from those two who are upset for some reason and turns his head back to his game. "... Not like I want to know," he murmurs as he thinks How troublesome. Just then shouts can be heard from Taketora and Lev, and he knits his brows.  "From tonight onward we'll be living the ryokan life. Isn't it great, Lev?" "Yes, Taketora-san. Sleeping out is the best!"
For those two, who competes for the ace title and rivals based on Lev’s one-sided claim, to get along like this is unusual. Could life with sisters be really that tough...
From behind the excited Lev, Yaku Morisuke peeks out.
“You! Are you still complaining even though you have such a beautiful sister? How conceited!” Yaku’s low kick lands squarely in Lev’s shin.
“Ouch!”
“I’m so jealous about Lev’s sister!”
“Wai... It hurts! Yaku-san, you’re not making sense!”
Towards Lev who’s running around the small room, Kai Nobuyuki calmly says, “Lev, unexpectedly you bring a lot of stuffs, huh.”
“Eh, is that so? But it’s only this...”, as he checks his bag while avoiding Yaku, his face pales.
“.... There’s a pillow! Since when!?”
Looking at that, Kuroo Tetsurou bursts out laughing, “Bahahahaha! Lace! It has lace pillowcase!”
“That’s not it! My sister just... Ah, it’s not her! This is my mom’s doing. There’s also a letter from her....” With the laced pillow and letter from his mom in his hands, Lev freezes.
“A laced pillow at the national tournament! Bahahahaha!”
“Wait! Please listen to what I say!”
“Oi, Lev! Your mom is a beauty as well, huh!”
“Ah, that’s right! Once we arrive at the ryokan, let’s have a pillow fight!”
“You guys are so loud...”
Nekoma High School who features flexible and tenacious play style with its setter who acts as the brain at its center. In Interhigh, they managed to last until the Top 8. With the arrival of a 194.5 cm large rookie, could they go further in Spring High? The expectation rises.
Around the same time in Fukuroudani High School gym...
“The first match... It will be in court E, huh? E? .... Court E means... sub-arena?” Bokuto Koutarou flumps cross-legged on the floor as he looks at tomorrow’s schedule. At the same time, he grasps some vague feeling.
“......?”
There’s no way he can actually grasps it with his hand. It’s something that he feels, after all.
When he sees the schedule, some vague feeling starts to loom in his chest, that’s what it feels like. His metaphorical hand quickly grasps it to find out what it is, but he still doesn’t know what it is.
Is it excitement from Spring High which begins tomorrow? Or is it because his physique is off somewhere? Or is it just hunger? ...
Before he could put a name to this slight vague feeling, Konoha Akinori and Sarukui Yamato pop up and take a look at the schedule.
“Sub-arena means it won’t be so noisy, isn’t that great!”
“Eh?” eased by Konoha’s word, his grip is starting to loosen up on the thing he’s been holding.
“Look, there are a lot of people in the main arena, right? Especially on the first day!”
“Eh? Yeah, that’s right!” As Bokuto absentmindedly replies, the metaphorical hand opens completely. Just like a balloon which string has been released from his grip, slowly floating up then disappears, the thing that he tried so hard to grasp is now gone.
If he were to let go of a balloon inside the gymnasium it would surely be stuck on the ceiling, but if it’s a feeling that he lets go then it would just completely disappear.
It was an unease that comes from within Bokuto himself. "Main arena is better...", a childish thing like that. Once he’s caught by such childish thoughts, he even forgets himself.
Somehow, Bokuto himself is not aware of the complexity of how his feeling works, but his teammates are.
Konoha and the others quickly change the conversation topic.
“Anyway, what do you think we’ll have for dinner?”
“Ah, that’s right. Starting tonight we’ll eat at the inn...”
Refreshed that the thing that’s been bothering him is now gone, Bokuto is back to his usual excited self and says, “I wanna eat yakiniku!”
But his teammates are cold.
“If such thing exists I’d want it too.”
“There’s no way we’ll get yakiniku at the inn.”
“We don’t know yet, right?”
“No, it’s obvious!”
“Common sense is important, you know.”
Looking at the senpais who starts bickering while still sitting on the floor, Akaashi Keiji raises his voice, “Practice is starting.”
But his voice goes ignored and Bokuto and the others continue their chat on yakiniku.
“Then let’s just go eat yakiniku first before going to the inn! Problem solved!”
“You sure do things as you please. What are you, a selfish king?”
“When making the inn reservation the dinner would have been included, so you can’t just make changes like that.”
As Akaashi looks at the 3rd years that continue their bickering, he thinks, For Konoha-san and Sarukui-san to ignore it too....
But he doesn’t let it show on his face.
To honestly display one’s displeasure when things do not work out is the trademark of the great ace Bokuto, so he won’t just give up here. This is all still within the range of his expectation.
“.........” Akaashi quietly observes his senpais.
It seems like this yakiniku talk will continue for a while.
The potential held by yakiniku is huge. Yakiniku is like a bundle of possibility. That’s right, this is not a topic that can be ended easily. “Eh, yakiniku? Yakiniku?” the other 3rd years join the conversation. Of course, this is also within his expectation.
As more people gets in the conversation, Bokuto continues to ramble about his theory. “You might say that, but listen! If we eat at the yakiniku place, then eat the meal at the inn, there would be no problem, right?”
“Can you really eat that much?”
“Is your stomach stupid too?”
“That’s why, listen to me!”
Akaashi has already takes into consideration that Bokuto will get heated up, but what he says next is out of his expectation.
“Listen, okay? ‘Meat, meat, rice, meat, meat, rice’, that’s the order when you eat, right? So if you eat the ‘meat, meat’ part at the yakiniku place, then eat the ‘rice’ at the inn, you’ll be able to eat them all, right?”
“..... Wait, I don’t even get what you’re talking about.”
“What kind of mysterious reasoning is that!”
Out of nowhere a figure smoothly approaches the excited 3rd years who are now surrounding Bokuto. It’s their manager, Shirofuku Yukie.
She calmly smiles and says, “I guess I somewhat understand what Bokuto said...”
“.... Seriously?!”
Except for Bokuto, all the guys are taken aback.
Akaashi’s eyes glint, This is it!
Shirofuku-san’s word must have made Bokuto-san feels content. Conversely, the other senpais who are taken aback by her words must now want to end the topic. I have to make use of this distortion.
If I miss this timing, the topic of yakiniku will continue until who knows when. I must end it here...
This thought process takes 0.2 second.
Immediately Akaashi raises his voice to the senpais facing away from him, “Shall we begin practice soon?”
How is it? Is it heard this time?
Behind his poker face, Akaashi explores the possibilities for his next moves and  the following ones. He waits for his senpais reaction.
Will they get up....
“Yeaah!” Bokuto slaps his knees. “Let’s eat yakiniku once we’re hungry!”
He got up!
Following Bokuto, the other senpais get up as well.
“Not going.”
“Go eat on your own.”
Following the cold treatment from his teammates, Bokuto shouts, “What! Once we get our energy back, let’s have a pillow fight tonight! Pillow fight!”
“Not doing it.”
“Do it on your own.”
The quarrel about pillow fight is starting to heat up, but this time all the 3rd years have stood up and is entering the court.
I won!
Without anyone noticing, Akaashi’s chest swells with a little sense of achievement as he quickly runs into the court.
Fukuroudani Academy High School with their national top 5 ace who is supported by the regular members who each has his own strength. How far can they go this year in their battle for the championship? One of the factors that affect their fate is the unpredictable mental condition of their ace.
The fated rival Nekoma High School. And the powerhouse Fukuroudani Academy High School.
They have both battled with Karasuno and are affected by them. Once again, they stand in the Spring High stage.
In their rivalry, their opponents are likely better than them. But Karasuno keep on fighting with all their might, and now here they are.
They both know each other’s strength and weaknesses in detail. Would the chance for this two school to battle it out in an official match, separated only by the net, come?
In the first round 40 schools in total will be sent home from the mens and womens side, and almost another 30 on the second round. How far will these 3 teams go? No one knows yet.
*Alisa’s bear is probably a reference to the 1980 Moscow Olympic mascot. Apparently there was an anime about the mascot.
PS. As always, thanks for reading! I’m still quite new to translating, so let me know if you notice any errors.
PPS. Support the official release! Here’s an Amazon link if you’re interested. I know it’s not translated yet, but the best way to get it licensed is to keep requesting it to the publisher (Viz). I’m so happy when I heard Heroaca light novels are getting licensed. We can get Haikyuu to be licensed too!
bokuto’s like “NO” because of course he’s like “NO”, akaashi you dickhead. and then he’s like “you’ve gotta say that’s not true bokuto-san” because bokuto happens to know how to be be nice fucking person
and akaashi’s like don’t fucking tell me what to do you shithead
and the next time bokuto’s like “but if you’re calm you can figure out what to do” and akaashi swoops in knowing full damn well that he’s being a dick and is like “that’s not true bokuto-san”
fucking brutal
endless practice? sure. lunch together? sure. the guy has a list of bokuto’s weaknesses, knows how to get him back on track no matter how shit his mood gets and you wanna tell me he’s not, like, one of the most important people in akaashi’s life?
also the second someone’s like “so bokuto, huh?” he’s like “yeah dude he’s super reliable and i only have good things to say about him whatever”
